About Sydney

Including tips for the best time to visit Sydney

As Australia's largest city and home to the iconic Opera House, it's no wonder Sydney is often mistaken as the country's capital. Whether you're into history, nature, fashion or food, this city has it all.

Many of Sydney's most popular attractions are in the compact downtown area, including the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, and countless restaurants and shops. There's also a large selection of museums and galleries like The Art Gallery of New South Wales, the Museum of Sydney, and the Australian National Maritime Museum. And for some fresh air, be sure to visit both the Royal Botanic Garden and the Victorian-style Centennial Park.

On the way out to the Eastern Suburbs, you'll find the world-famous Bondi Beach, frequented by surfers and swimmers alike for its big, warm waves. Another main attraction is Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park, offering panoramic views over Sydney from its West Head lookout point. Then check out some Aboriginal rock paintings and cave art at any one of +800 well-preserved archaeological sites.

Sydney Kingsford Smith International Airport is about 5 miles south of the city and can be reached easily by train, bus, and taxi.

Weather was horrid drizzle and cold wind.

Weather was horrid drizzle and cold wind. Never felt 100% safe on the street. Museum Ramses 2 great (do the VR) Outdoor theatre was magnificent with Opera house , bridge and city scape in the background. Had a horrible experience when leaving airport security confiscated a electronic lighter that was a gift left a very sour taste in my mouth about travel to Sydney. Other than that lots to see and do, easy enough to get around, food was good and accommodation ok.

Sydney in March/April is such a beautiful time to visit.

April 21, 2024

Sydney in March/April is such a beautiful time to visit. Get around by ferries, walk around Barangaroo, and visit Bennie the Sydney Opera House seal who comes to sit on the steps each day. A visit to Sydney should not be without a coastal walk from Bronte to Bondi (and back again), stopping for lunch at Bondi Ice Bergs. Public Transport is easy and affordable, however, I try to avoid the trains as they didnt feel very safe. Highlight restaurant was Penelopes at Circular Quay

City transport (trains, buses and ferries) is very efficient and having an Opal card facilitates travelling and minimises cost. If you are a senior, make sure to obtain a gold card for the significant savings they offer. Plenty of great eateries and pubs to choose from and prices generally in line with out of state venues (eg Tasmania). Plenty of entertainment options on offer for all ages. Take a comfortable pair of walking shoes!

An amazing city.

April 19, 2024

An amazing city. Everything you do is memorable. The people are friendly, helpful, and courteous. Make sure you go to the Blue Mountains (all day affair) take the ferry to Manley Beach (1/2 day min), 333 bust to Bondi Beach (another 1/2 day), the Sydney Opera House (budget 3-4 hours if you take the tour) and the Chinese Gardens of Friendship.

Sydney is a very walkable city and the transit - light rail, busses and the train were all easily accessible, clean, and fast. Best meal: Thai Nesia, the massaman curry was amazing. Climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge at night if you can. Ride the ferries, take the busses to the beaches and small neighborhoods. I took a private walking/food tour with "Sustainability Gem" which I would highly recommend. Her knowledge of the city and its neighborhoods is extensive. I'll be back, so much more to see and do.

Ths staff are amazing - so unassuming and very friendly I am just writing to say THANKYOU you are absolutely the Best. Your staff are just fantastic. On leaving my car in valet parking - i joked that i would not complain if it came back washed. The response came back - what would you do if that happened, and I promptly advised i would live in the Hotel forever. I was just stunned when my car was handed back to me clean...UNBELIVABLE.. You have no idea how shocked I was and how happy that made me. You are definitely my number 1 recommendation for a stay in Sydney. Please reward your staff.. they are amazing.
