Canals gliding through colourful Flemish buildings, ringing bells of the churches and cobblestone streets alive with the chatter of thousands – Bruges is a city that offers beauty, culture and exuberance all at once.
The rich history associated with Bruges is best understood throughout its museums, of which the Groeninge Museum is a must visit. With an extensive collection of paintings, this place is home to many iconic European artworks by Jan van Eyck, De Smet, Ducq and others from various time periods. You can also take a dip into the history of chocolate and cocoa in the Choco-Story Chocolate Museum.
Minnewaterpark occupies a niche of its own in this busy Belgian city. This relaxing space provides stretches of grassy land dotted with tall trees and vibrant flowers, along with a swan-filled lake and an asymmetrical bridge. With quiet corners and intimate spaces, this park is a perfect place to catch a small break.
Bruges is one of the most diverse gastronomic destinations in Europe. Apart from its world-famous chocolate, Bruges has some of the best seafood and vegetarian dishes. During your tour, you can try its Flemish stew, also known as stoofvlees. Although there are a number of versions, this stew uses beef as a chief ingredient and is slow cooked in beer. Since a tour to Bruges is incomplete without a glass of beer, make sure to stop at Brouwerij De Halve Maan for a glass of Brugse Zot, the authentic beer of Bruges.

I've attended the Xmas market in Bruges every year since 2000 (apart from Covid). However recently the event is a pale reflection of days past. No more ice rink or Ice sculptures, Fewer stalls and generally less effort. This year was particularly disappointing so I think I shan't bother again.

Beautiful and extensive medieval centre was a delight to explore and could have happily spent 3-4 nights here. The Xmas market was underwhelming but that didn’t matter so much because the city itself was so wonderful.

Such a beautiful place with friendly shop staff, stunning buildings, masses of restaurants to suit everybody and very good beer, waffles and chocolate!! The market squares has such an array of architecture and the canals elevate the scenery. No matter what the weather, it is a must go to destination.

We visited Bruge for the Christmas Markets. Bruge is a beautiful quaint historic city. Plenty to see and do. We wouldn’t necessarily go back for the Christmas markets as we thought they were quite small. However, the Christmas lights are beautiful. There are also plenty of Christmas shops all year round. We visited the Choco museum, the Historium. We had a boat trip on the canal and a ride on the horse and cart. We thought most things were fairly reasonably priced. The horse and cart was probably the dearest activity at €60 per cart. The restaurants around the market square can be expensive so best to walk a bit further afield to get a cheaper one.
