Tallinn Old Town
0.3 miles from downtown
Time stood still in “Old Town”. The Hanseatic houses are a painter’s palette of clovers and dusky pinks, inhabited by wealthy families. Stroll the streets, then check out the Health Museum on Lai Street. Stop by the Olde Hansa bar on Vana Turg 1, which is as medieval as you can get – beers in terracotta flagons and waiters with curly-toed shoes!

In downtown
As "big city" as this little city gets! This is the main commercial centre of Tallinn, filled with places to eat, shop and party. Kalamaja
0.7 miles from downtown
Kalamaja is slowly gentrifying. Its undesirable denizens have been replaced with happy hipsters and fancy urbanites. However, some things remain the same – dodge the bell-jingling cyclists en route to Boheem for top-notch morning nosh, walk around Kalamaja Park, or pop into the Gustav Cake Shop on Estonia Pst. 9 for divine pastries.

History and innovative design blend seamlessly in Tallinn – the capital of Estonia and one of the Baltic's busiest ports. The UNESCO-listed old town Vanalinn is circled by a well-preserved medieval city wall and 26 defense towers. Head to the Patkuli Viewing Platform for panoramic views of the walls and the impressive architecture within. Don't miss a visit to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, an orthodox monument set on the opposite side of the hill.
Then explore Vanalinn’s cobblestone streets lined with museums, galleries, and artisanal shops selling everything from Baltic knitwear to the region’s famous amber jewelry.
Despite its medieval feel, Tallinn is one of Europe’s leading tech and start-up hubs. Lots of new enterprises open here, drawing on the pool of talent from Tallinn’s prestigious University of Technology. The modern city center bustles with high-speed internet cafes, as well as lively bars and nightclubs.
Tallinn’s approach to cuisine is just as dynamic, featuring a range of international and traditional restaurants to choose from in the charming Raekoja Plats. During the spring and summer, enjoy a bowl of wild berries and currants, or in the winter, try something heartier like wild mushroom soup with a hunk of black bread.
During the summer, make like a local and visit Tallinn's popular sandy beaches.

Tallinn is a beautiful mix of new and old, having pretty much everything you could want with a city break, but not big enough that you don't have to worry about missing anything. The locals are friendly and helpful. The local cinemas show films in their original language, so you don't have to worry about not being able to watch something, and the restaurant in the Forum shopping centre (near the Apollo cinema) is particularly nice.

A lovely, old historical town connected with the "bohemian and trendy" Telliskivi/Creative City in the part of town called Kalamaja where you find the new "vibe", where I stayed most of the time. A lot to see and to do around in Tallinn. Tallinn also has a lush and green environment. Easy to rent a bike and go around if you don't want to take the tram or the bus, but most things is within in a walking distance in the city. A lot of nice places to eat and drink from cultures all over the world. Tallinn is a city it is very nice to come back to. The people are friendly, safe for a single female traveller, good food and drinks. My second time there, and I would like to go back some time!

The old city is beautiful & NOT to be missed, but you must go to Kalamaja! It's also craft beer heaven. There's nothing wrong with Saku & LeCoq but there are dozens of beers in town which are far more exciting

My favourite places - TV tower, Seaplane Harbour, Kadriorg park, Town Hall Square. During our 40 year travelling experience in Europe found the beautiful Tallinn the first town where was no parking places for handicapped persons in the center or near the center.
Very very nice place!

Very very nice place! The Old Town is absolutely fantastic, a small gem of history in the middle of the city: lots of interesting museums (History Museum, Marittime Museum, Museum of Puppetry), and even just strolling around is quite a pleasure. Also the other parts city are quite nice: I suggest visiting the Botanical Garden, Kadriorg Park and the Estonian Open Air Museum. Also the food scene is interesting, ranging from local Estonian cuisine (in at least three versions: middle ages, traditional/rural, modern/new baltic), to Russian cuisine, to more ethnic choices (Indian, Chinese, Japanese).
Tallinn is amazing city!

Tallinn is amazing city! You can enjoy small old city, chill in old cool caffeterias, walk and look around. But also you can go to the modern part of the city, that will impress you by their creativity and "relaxing style". But there are also lots of sad, desolated places, that contrast with beautiful city. I think it´s only the question of the time. Tallinn also has a great soviet heritage that you should see and feel. For me it´s the city with great history and big future.
