Tallinn Old Town
0.3 miles from downtown
Time stood still in “Old Town”. The Hanseatic houses are a painter’s palette of clovers and dusky pinks, inhabited by wealthy families. Stroll the streets, then check out the Health Museum on Lai Street. Stop by the Olde Hansa bar on Vana Turg 1, which is as medieval as you can get – beers in terracotta flagons and waiters with curly-toed shoes!

History and innovative design blend seamlessly in Tallinn – the capital of Estonia and one of the Baltic's busiest ports. The UNESCO-listed old town Vanalinn is circled by a well-preserved medieval city wall and 26 defense towers. Head to the Patkuli Viewing Platform for panoramic views of the walls and the impressive architecture within. Don't miss a visit to the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, an orthodox monument set on the opposite side of the hill.
Then explore Vanalinn’s cobblestone streets lined with museums, galleries, and artisanal shops selling everything from Baltic knitwear to the region’s famous amber jewelry.
Despite its medieval feel, Tallinn is one of Europe’s leading tech and start-up hubs. Lots of new enterprises open here, drawing on the pool of talent from Tallinn’s prestigious University of Technology. The modern city center bustles with high-speed internet cafes, as well as lively bars and nightclubs.
Tallinn’s approach to cuisine is just as dynamic, featuring a range of international and traditional restaurants to choose from in the charming Raekoja Plats. During the spring and summer, enjoy a bowl of wild berries and currants, or in the winter, try something heartier like wild mushroom soup with a hunk of black bread.
During the summer, make like a local and visit Tallinn's popular sandy beaches.

Tallinn was a fascinating destination for me, as I hadn't visited before. Among the three Baltic states, I found Tallinn's Old Town to be particularly romantic, with its charming buildings and cobblestone streets. However, one aspect that struck me was the prevalence of Russian-speaking residents. It gave me the impression of not just visiting Tallinn, but rather a city with a significant Russian-speaking population.
Beautiful town.

Beautiful town. I went at the correct time for me as I like it quiet. Museums and many restaurants dont open till the beginning of the season, which is May. Walking tour was worth going on as was the virtual reality of Tallin. I would have liked to have gone to the beach and outside of the Old Town to see the wooden houses but it was too cold at 5 degrees. Glad of my hat and my waterproof cape. Very honest and kind people. Straight to the point and no hinting. Had some great food whilst there and recommended it to several people on my return.

Tallinn is a lovely, compact city with a truly beautiful Old Town area that I spent most of my time in. I recommend it thoroughly. Prices are reasonable, people are nice, and the sights and sites are great.

The architecture was very interesting with beautiful buildings, the streets were very clean. Flat shoes are needed with the cobbled streets & high kerbs in the old city. Great variety of restaurants & cafes. Loved the unusual museums. A friendly, welcoming historic city.
Beautiful old town.

Beautiful old town. There are many parks not far from the center. We visited a small park called the Japanese Garden, where friendly squirrels ran around the park. I also recommend visiting the Tallinn TV Tower, which offers a wonderful view of the surrounding area. There is also a Ferris wheel near the center. I can also recommend visiting the Maritime Museum and Telliskivi Creative City, there is a lot of different food there
Tallinn is perfect destination for families with kids.

Tallinn is perfect destination for families with kids. It has probably most beautiful Old Town. Really good to spend a day just by walk around. There was ice ring near Niguliste church. Cool, but quite expensive. We walked from Old Town to Proto Invention factory. Long way, but super cool streets to walk trough. If You have kids - Proto is a must go place. Another great place for kids is Super Skypark at T1 shopping centre. We spent another day around there. In Old Town there are lots of restaurants to choose from. We wanted to try out medieval atmosphere at the 3 Dragons. Did not get, what was expected. Too expencive and too little food, and too small place.
