About Benalmádena

Including tips for the best time to visit Benalmádena

Benalmádena may be a small town on the Costa Del Sol, but it punches far above its weight thanks to its sandy beaches, lush parks, Andalusian cuisine, imposing buildings and cultural festivals.

Walk along the meandering cobbled streets of the Old Town of Benalmádena – perched atop a hill – to be rewarded with views of the Mediterranean Sea and sleepy mountain villages. You can head to Benalmádena Costa to explore its golden shores and El Parque de la Paloma, a landscaped park featuring native and exotic plants. Situated right in between and in direct contrast with the other two districts is Arroyo de la Miel, a lively neighbourhood lined with bars, restaurants and high-street coffee houses.

If you’re wondering how to cover the host of places to see in this Spanish city, Benalmádena Stupa is a good starting point. This 108-feet monument represents peace, prosperity and harmony, making it an unmatched spot to spend some time by yourself. To enjoy some good food, shopping and a relaxing walk at sunset, make your way to Benalmadena Puerto Marina. You can treat yourself to aerial views of the city and nearby towns with a cable ride up Mount Calamorro. To pack some adventure into your trip to Benalmádena, visit Tivoli World or Aqualand, two of the city’s key amusement parks.

We walked to each restaurant we used and had no difficulties.

June 5, 2023

We walked to each restaurant we used and had no difficulties. We had an evening meal to the east of the hotel on the N340: Ruta del Iberico, great if you like pork; also to the west on the N340: Restaurant Pepe Cordoba was good food and easier on the pocket. We also walked into the Marina Area and enjoyed the walk around the yacht moorings and stopped for a rum and raisin ice cream and cocktails in an outdoor bar below SeaLife which set us up for the walk back to the VistaMar. We thought that next time we would investigate the bus service along this coast road possibly the hop on hop off bus which could be worth a try.

A bit run down.

May 28, 2023

A bit run down. Plenty of decent bars and restaurants, but the general area looks like maintenance might not be a priority for many businesses. There were lucky-lucky men everywhere and we were constantly pestered wherever we went, even when sat down having a drink

Benalmadena is so easy to get to from the airport by train, Eur2.55 per person is an absolute bargain. As it’s so cheap it’s also good for visiting other places on the coast or for a trip into Malaga town. Benalmadena can be quite hilly, so if you’re not very mobile stick to the beach front. Any where you stay will have plenty of restaurants and little shops close by. The harbour area, Palmero Park and the cable car are worth a visit.

Bepends on what a traveler looks for and his or her physical abilities. Benalmádena is a more relaxed city vs Malaga or Marbella, with similar beaches, but not the same amenities. The city is a bus drive away to Malaga, Marbella, Fuengirola, Torremolins and Mijas. So, it is very central in that respect.

I used to live and work in Benalmadena ( reluctantly) for work The top of Benalmadena ( Arroyo) is more to my liking as it is more Spanish , which I like , but give me a pretty authentic Spanish town or village , without all the ex - pats any day.
