About Marbella

Including tips for the best time to visit Marbella

A sun-drenched, glamorous spot on Spain’s famous Costa del Sol, the city of Marbella is synonymous with sleek resort hotels, celebrity-filled restaurants, chic bars and clubs and the flashiest marina on the coast. But there’s more to this place than just glitz and glamour. The magnificent Sierra Blanca Mountains provide a backdrop to over 27 kilometres of golden beaches, and there are multiple golf courses, water parks and adventure playgrounds all within easy reach.

While Marbella is well known for its so-called ‘Golden Mile’ – a five-kilometre stretch of luxury villas and apartments, Michelin-starred restaurants, legendary hotels and a vibrant nightlife scene – there is another side to the city. The attractive casco antiguo (or ‘Old Town’) is full of romance with a maze of labyrinthine alleyways, flower-draped balconies and whitewashed buildings from the Renaissance era. At its centre lies the pretty Plaza de los Naranjos – a quaint square filled with orange trees, terraced restaurants serving up traditional fare and the 15th-century Ermita de Santiago church. Other sites here include the Avenida del Mar – a plaza dotted with statues by Salvador Dalí.

There’s something for everyone in Marbella, whether you’re wanting to wine and dine in flashy restaurants or kick back and relax on the beach. Developed around a coastal village to the west of the city, Puerto Banús is a marina that contains high-end shopping malls, restaurants and bars – it’s well worth a visit to enjoy the sunset while sipping on an icy-cool cocktail.

I'm not a big fan of Spain and Marbella is a bit on the lame side. It feels often like you are trying to avoid tourist traps. As European travellers, we like fresh and green food. There is just too much fried and oily food happening.

Nothing much to do in Marbella.

August 6, 2022

Nothing much to do in Marbella. The beach is full of algae and plastic, really disgusting to swim and to top it all lots of families with kids who throw heavy stones at people: my wife got hit by stones (pebbles) and needed stitches. Luckily there is a Hospital nearby. Overall, the beaches were just horrendous. Food - compared to Malaga where I had spent 4days, Marbella is simply poor. Shops - pretty convenient actually to shop around for the basic supplies.

Just make sure you bring money, or research the places you are going to. It’s great fun, but they charge what they like in the clubs, often different prices for the same drinks depending on who serves you. Good for groups of friends, not so much for families, it’s a money generator based around partying. Definitely go back, I’d save up a little more first

I had a really lovely time staying at the Villa Palma, it had a family homely Atmosphere which I found very Welcoming, the Staff were all friendly extremely kind, nothing is a hassle for them if you ask for anything they will do their best to accommodate you. Sebastian, Rocio, and estelle made my Stay a total pleasure and would definitely use this place again. It's a 10 out of 10 for me. I also liked that the area the hotel is situated you are living amongst the Spanish which I Loved, Getting a real feel of Spain. Marbella was an amazing place to visit and stay.

Stunning place. Lively but not too lively. Beautiful beach, very clean. Lovely people. Lots of bars and restaurants. Stunning harbour with lovely little cocktail bars. Boat trips are a must. Definitely recommend. Views are stunning. La sala restaurant in puerto banus is amazing.

Beautiful part of Span, twins very well kept, nice good, service amazing everywhere. Puerto Banus quite expensive and very flashy, but other towns like Mijas and Fuengirola more authentic. Water can still be cold in June, check before you fly!
