About Marbella

Including tips for the best time to visit Marbella

A sun-drenched, glamorous spot on Spain’s famous Costa del Sol, the city of Marbella is synonymous with sleek resort hotels, celebrity-filled restaurants, chic bars and clubs and the flashiest marina on the coast. But there’s more to this place than just glitz and glamour. The magnificent Sierra Blanca Mountains provide a backdrop to over 27 kilometres of golden beaches, and there are multiple golf courses, water parks and adventure playgrounds all within easy reach.

While Marbella is well known for its so-called ‘Golden Mile’ – a five-kilometre stretch of luxury villas and apartments, Michelin-starred restaurants, legendary hotels and a vibrant nightlife scene – there is another side to the city. The attractive casco antiguo (or ‘Old Town’) is full of romance with a maze of labyrinthine alleyways, flower-draped balconies and whitewashed buildings from the Renaissance era. At its centre lies the pretty Plaza de los Naranjos – a quaint square filled with orange trees, terraced restaurants serving up traditional fare and the 15th-century Ermita de Santiago church. Other sites here include the Avenida del Mar – a plaza dotted with statues by Salvador Dalí.

There’s something for everyone in Marbella, whether you’re wanting to wine and dine in flashy restaurants or kick back and relax on the beach. Developed around a coastal village to the west of the city, Puerto Banús is a marina that contains high-end shopping malls, restaurants and bars – it’s well worth a visit to enjoy the sunset while sipping on an icy-cool cocktail.

Marbella is stunning and offers everything, the Mediterranean,a beautiful promenade to walk along and check out the scores of colourful bars and restaurants. People watching is great here, all nationalities and age groups and very often a movie or rock star to admire!! The best for me is to be around the Spanish, dressed up and strolling for the evening,it's my Paradise 😁😁

Great facilities and lots to do and see. Not as expensive as you might think I was very surprised. Nice beach front with long promenade to walk, jog or run along with lots of restaurants and shops to visit.

We didn't get a chance to see much of Marbella but Banana Beach. It was April so it was too windy/chilly to do any beach activities but it was beautiful! We enjoyed shopping in the Canada mall there. Great prices and plenty of parking.

Marbella is a a vibrant fun place offering tranquil squares (Orange Square old town fabulous) and also great restaurants and nightlife - many amazing beach clubs - Player Pardre, Chiringuita (Puento Romano hotel) and my favourite Nikki Beach no finer place to spend (and spend lol) for an afternoon great party. Don Calos hotel amazing with direct access to its own beach club AND Nikki Beach - heaven! Play Wright restaurant - and a bit further out towards Fuengirola AL Kazarba in Mijas Pueblo (great place to visit in the afternoon)in the mountains fabulous

Beautiful city combining the beautiful old historical centre...

Beautiful city combining the beautiful old historical centre with the new paseo maritimo. Nice beach, nice restaurants and if you stay in the heart of the city you can go everywhere on foot. We enjoyed very much our day trip to the marina of Puerto Banus, our dinner on the beach at a chiringuitos place and the drinks in the narrow streets of the old city.

Marbella is such a pretty town.

March 28, 2023

Marbella is such a pretty town. Like a movie set. Bright pink flowers in planters decorate every street and the streets are pristine, cleaned each evening. We loved the restaurants and little shops. We discovered a lovely restaurant called Candella, (nearby our apartment) which had a fantastic chef. The old town of Marbella is a perfect place to stay and is a short walk to the 'new town' and to the beach.
