First built in 1869, the historic ship took many a treacherous voyage before finally retiring to the era of the steam train. Above and below decks, you’ll get a taste of what life was like as a seafaring Victorian with displays and interactive activities immersing you in the nautical world. Stand at the original wheel and learn how to steer while taking in London’s skyline, or go on a walk beneath the helm while one of the knowledgeable guides teaches you about the clipper’s storied background. With roving 19th-century characters performing throughout the day, both young and old will be thoroughly entertained.
Greenwich Royal Observatory
Situated in the nautical suburb of Greenwich, the 17th-century Royal Observatory still stands majestically to this day with a dedication to all things astronomical. Filled with fascinating information, the scientific institution is also closely linked to the world of timekeeping, thanks to its unique location. The Greenwich Meridian boasts the longitude coordinate of 0°, separating Earth into two halves. Straddle the line to have one foot in the east and the other in the west. Greenwich Mean Time or GMT is the anchor around which the world’s time zones are based, with a display of marine timepieces on show at the Observatory to mark this. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore the Time and Longitude Gallery, delving deep into the history of timekeeping and nautical navigation with an exhibit dedicated to objects, paintings and animations pertaining to 18th-century astronomers, mathematicians and clock-makers.
Churchill War Rooms

You'll have the chance to explore the underground maze of rooms in their original state, including Churchill's bedroom, the map room and the Cabinet War Rooms. The sense of wartime tension will be palpable, not least due to the scratches that Churchill carved into his own chair during those long cigar-fuelled nights. On site is also the world's first museum dedicated to Winston Churchill. The combination of interactive technology, mulitmedia displays, photos, film clips, sound recordings, wartime documents and Churchill's letters to his wife all help complete the picture of Winston Churchill as a man, husband and leader.
