Chinatown
0.2 miles from downtown
It’s that story of East meets North. Newcastle’s Chinatown may not sprawl like the markets of Shanghai, but it does have some hidden treasures. The main strip on Stowell Street welcomes you with its grand Chinese archway and traditional lanterns. For something a bit eclectic, explore the menu at Nudo for artistic sushi and yummy noodles.

Newcastle upon Tyne, or simply Newcastle – one of the largest cities in northeast England – is a thriving port city with notable culture and nightlife scenes. From its Victorian city centre to Northumbria University and rejuvenated quayside, there's a lot to explore in this ever-evolving metropolis.
You won't have much difficulty finding things to do in Newcastle. First opened in 1837, the historic Theatre Royal and its Edwardian interior is an atmospheric spot to watch pantomime, drama, opera and other performances. For a look at the city's industrial past, stop by the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art to see exhibitions housed inside a converted mill. Or, root on Newcastle United during a football match at St James' Park.
London may have its chic Soho nightclubs, but Newcastle's nightlife scene is equally renowned. With a major university in town, young party-loving crowds are a popular sight after dark – and there are multiple options for revelry. You'll find a high concentration of bars, clubs and restaurants in Bigg Market and Quayside. Alternatively, slip into Sage Gateshead to listen to electronic, rock, hip hop and other musical acts.
Direct train routes between Newcastle Train Station and London King's Cross mean city-goers can reach the former in under three hours. While in the city, the speedy and affordable Tyne & Wear Metro makes travelling between attractions a breeze.

Newcastle worth paying a visit - unique waterfront with amazing bridges. Convenient metropolitan light rail system can take you to Tynemouth to spend a day be the sea. Nearby factory store of Barbour country clothing with great selection of waxed jackets (James Bond wore one of them :) - I took back home a lot of nice memories :)

Four night stay so we're able to spend 2 days at Beamish, nearly saw everything. Bus stop near hotel, straight to Eldon Bus Station, 50 minutes Bus ride , free with pass! One day at lovely Alnwick, told about little tea shop Stawberry Lounge down alley off main street, food and cakes excellent. Prebooked meal at The Treehouse as wouldn't get in without a booking, magical. 3 buses go from Haymarket bus station which is next to Eldon Square station. X15 takes 2 hours as takes coastal route, quicker are X18 and X19. Nice meal at the Hardrock Cafe on the Quayside near the Millennium Bridge.
Fourth time in Newcastle, just in love with the town.

Fourth time in Newcastle, just in love with the town. Beutiful architecture and truly friendly people. Easy to use as a base to visit other cities (ex: Edinburgh or York) for the day. And the seaside coast is beautiful as well (accessible by Metro). Too many good things to list in a short paragraph but let's just say I wish I could live there :)

Great clean hotel Amazing food Lovely and welcoming staff Great leisure facilities however it needs some TLC ASAP ! The pool was freezing and there is no privacy to get changed after a swim or a shower this needs to be prioritised. Regardless really enjoyed our wee vacation there and would come back again.
Newcastle much bigger than expected.
August 26, 2024
Newcastle much bigger than expected. So much to see and little time to do everything as hoped. Great shopping centre. Taxi service not ideal as very few available for families of 5. The traffic..navigating through the city was stressful by car but no option as no taxi available from our hotel at time required. Multi storey carpark location felt stressful as so many complex roundabouts. Disappointed couldn’t find the colourful bridges by nightlight.
