Central Station
1.6 miles from downtown
Besides functioning as a transportation hub, Milan's Central Train Station is a labyrinth of shops and restaurants. Step just outside and you'll be standing in an expansive square in front of Pirellone, one of Milan’s first skyscrapers, and an area filled with offices, some shopping, restaurants and cafes.
Places to stay from $15 a night
Despite centuries of rich history, Milan prides itself on being Italy's most contemporary city and fashion capital. The ancient Duomo is just one of many churches around the city, and you'll also find numerous world-class museums, theaters, and opera houses like La Scala.
To discover the city's history, head to the red brick Castello Sforzesco, where the prominent Sforza-Visconti families of Milan used to live. Today, you'll find several museums inside, one of which features the "Rondanini Pietà" – Michaelangelo's final work. Continue exploring down the Corso Magenta, lined with chic cafés and impressive examples of Milanese architecture like the Palazzo Litta. The most famous highlight lies inside Santa Maria delle Grazie church, home to Leonardo da Vinci’s "The Last Supper."
The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele blends the best of shopping with impressive architecture. This enormous shopping mall is set inside a glass-domed, 19th century palace and features an intricate mosaic floor lined with designer boutiques like Louis Vuitton and Prada.
Milan's main international airport is Malpensa, with an express train, buses, and taxis into the city.

Metro connects each districts of the city, easy to use applications to purchase tickets for public transportation.Stuff in museum very serviceable and Tourism/t oriented. It's better to pay more and avoid some districts. Doom,Doom museum, Sforza,Brera pinacotek,Pezoldi Gallery and others must see.A huge piece of art &history. The street food in Milano is not cheap at all.but tasty.

There is plenty to see in Milan, on foot for a couple of days unless you are really into art when there is plenty more. The city is easy to get around. After that you can easily use trains to go out to the lakes which are about 1 hour away. There are some great areas to eat, especially down by the canal.

I enjoyed the people, good food and friendly atmosphere of the city. For the basic food, ie, pasta and pizza, the prices were not shocking and one can take a family out for dinner without it breaking the bank. I felt safe and apart from the pick pockets, which are around, I wasn’t worried about walking around alone.

I think i was expecting Milan to be a lot more beautiful than it was, which is probably ignorance on my behalf as I wasn't expecting it to be so industrial and concrete. The cathedral was the beautiful and I visited some nice restuarants and a spa. Unfortunately i had terrible weather when I was in Milan which really effected my experience.
