Ancient history comes alive down every street of Italy's capital. Many of the ruins depict stories of the powerful empire that once spanned three continents, making Rome an open-air museum thanks to iconic monuments like the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill, and the Colosseum. The former gladiator arena is the city's centerpiece, and brings to mind all the brutal games once held on its stage for thousands of roaring spectators. Visit the impressively preserved Pantheon to experience even more of the Eternal City's golden age.
With over 900 churches and many beautiful basilicas among them, Rome is also home to the city-state of the Vatican, the seat of the Catholic Church. St. Peter's Basilica is a tourist hotspot, but treasures like Michelangelo's Sistine Chapel and countless other masterpieces are held inside the Vatican's great museums.
Like any other Italian city, the local food varies from region to region. In Rome, the trademark dishes are "cacio e pepe"—a deliciously simple pecorino cheese and pepper pasta—and "spaghetti carbonara."
Don't miss other landmarks like the iconic Trevi Fountain, the Borghese Gallery, or Piazza Navona and Piazza di Spagna. The weather is best between April and June, perfect for a walk or bike ride through Villa Borghese park.

April 15, 2024
Of course everything is so beautiful and the weather is wonderful. What I did not expect was the sheer number of people EVERYWHERE. It's so overcrowded as to almost be not worth visiting. I assumed early April would be okay but there were just masses of people everywhere. If I go again it would be in a month like February or March (well before Easter). Getting around takes some time to figure out and is not for the faint hearted!
We walked and walked!
April 15, 2024
We walked and walked! only have 2 days, day one we Walked from our accomodation which worked well, over 12 kms. Day 2, we went Vatican City. The Pope spoke which was exciting but we forfeited our tour which we were looking forward to, as the meeting place description was inadequate and the guide didn’t answer our numerous calls. ALWAYS be certain of meeting points!

It goes without saying that Rome has a lot of history and it was worth seeing in person. A city with an amazing energy. The food was great and if you like pasta and pizza you’ve come to the right place 😆 The sites were at your finger tips with every walk to and from the monuments filled with interesting sights, smells and sounds at every turn. Restaurants and cafes were everywhere but with an annoyance of someone telling you to eat at their establishment every time you tried to view the outside menu 😆 When I return to Rome I will be less accommodating to the persons selling junk bracelets (they’re your best friend until you walk away and they get aggressive or try to make you feel guilty).
Beautiful capital city.

Beautiful capital city. Wonderful weather and great atmosphere. Lots of places within walking distance. There are plenty of great restaurants and the food is excellent in most of them. Great experience in all of them. Waiters are very friendly and patient.

Rome offers a lot of places to see, historical moments, monuments and incredible stay. Easy transportation byt metro with day tickets. Do not forget to buy entrance tickets into colloseoum at least a week in advance, then there is not too big chance to enter that historical monuments and bulding.
We came from tranquil traffic free Venice to Rome.
April 15, 2024
We came from tranquil traffic free Venice to Rome. It was quite a contrast. Traffic and masses of tourists in early April. We managed to get some early entrances which helped. We had Palatine hill all to ourselves at 9.00am!
