A picturesque port city in Lithuania, Klaipėda sits on the coast where the Danė River meets the Baltic Sea. With the cobblestone Theatre Square at its core, the old town is characterised by German-style architecture, half-timbered houses and streets laid out in a grid.
To the south of Klaipėda, the Curonian Spit extends almost 100 kilometres down to Russia. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a thin strip of sand that separates the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea. It is home to seaside resort towns, a national park and shifting sand dunes, including the 52-metre-high Parnidis Dune. The Curonian Spit (or Kuršių Nerija) National Park is well worth a visit, featuring its forests, beaches and majestic dune landscapes.
The ruins of Klaipėda Castle date back to the 13th century and offer scenic views of the harbour. Inside, the Castle Museum features exhibits on the city’s history, the Second World War and more. If you’re travelling with kids, the Lithuanian Sea Museum boasts a glass-tunnel aquarium, dolphin shows and pools populated with penguins, seals and sea lions. After a day spent exploring museums, you can unwind with some shopping and dining at Akropolis – a large shopping centre that also houses an ice-skating rink, a casino and a bowling alley.

A beautiful port city with its own face. Impressive old town and preserved heritage. Modern maritime museum and dolphinarium. Interesting Klaipėda city museum. It's nice to take a walk along the river bank in the evening.
Klaipėda is my soul city.

Klaipėda is my soul city. Everytime when I am here, my heart is dancing. Nice city, nice people, nice location - next to the sea. Beautiful sunsets, pinewood forest, bike trail, and comfortable infrastructure. Residents should be have to live here in this city. Really nice food places - Ateik Ateik, Toli nuo klasikos, Baltas ruonis, Momo grill, Gaisrine. Nice hotels - Michaelson Boutique hotel, Victoria Hotel, Dunes Appartments,. Very close to the Palanga, or Nida. Smiltynė beach. Also there is a lot of active freetime activities- skydiving, surfing, kiteboarding, wakeboarding, cycling, roller skating, running, there is nice forest, where you can be surrounding by the nature. Highly recommendations to be, stay, and live there. And I am happy, that this city is growing. Best wishes from the capital Vilnius to Klaipeda :)

A nice, historic town right at te bay. It's got a cute walkable old town and is the perfect starting point for discovering the surrounding areas - especially the Curonian spit with it's beautiful landscape and beaches. You can find god food and drinks in hip cafes and bars all day round. A must visit when in Lithuania

The day trip to Nida was fascinating but I’d been misled online about the frequency of the return buses, necessitating a long and boring wait in a bar. On impulse, I also attempted to visit Palanga early on the day I returned to Vilnius. Be aware that there are many routes for that journey between Klaipeda and Palanga, the information at the bus stations is needlessly opaque and walking to anywhere worth seeing in Palanga takes time. It also bears mentioning that the food in Klaipeda is unexceptional, overpriced and worth avoiding, if possible.

Cozy small old town, bounded by the Danė (Dangė) river with picturesque yachts, boats and ships tied up at the bank. Lithuanian sea port city is accessible by train or public bus from every other major city and is famous for it's historical German style architecture. Comparatively quite, but very suitable for travelers who seek scenic place near idyllic natural beaches.

Great food and drinks locations, including the sky bar for an amazing view of the city. There's a ferry over to Neda and the beach on the other side of the water, also bike riding, culture, music... all in all an amazing city that I've been to now 4 times and will be back again - it is always changing and developing.
