About The Hague

Including tips for the best time to visit The Hague

The third-largest city in the Netherlands, The Hague (called 'Den Haag' locally) is home to the Dutch government as well as the royal family. It is also known as the international city of peace and justice, boasting over 200 important global organisations.

When in The Hague, make sure to check out the historic buildings that make the city influential both nationally and globally. Start with the seat of the Dutch parliament at the Binnenhof – a 13th-century Gothic castle situated by a pond. Then there’s the Huis ten Bosch Palace, the Dutch royal residence in the midst of a forest. A global icon of harmony, the Peace Palace houses prestigious institutions like the United Nations’ International Court of Justice. The impressive building is adorned by precious art and artefacts gifted by countries from all over the world supporting its ideals.

Situated on the North Sea coast, The Hague is a popular choice for travellers looking for a beach break in the Netherlands. Scheveningen is a seaside resort with stretches of sand and a picturesque pier offering adventure sports, beachfront restaurants and a Ferris wheel. The area is also home to Madurodam – a theme park with miniature models of Dutch cities dotted with iconic landmarks, tulip fields, canal houses and windmills.

Excellent.

September 21, 2023

Excellent. Just walking the tiny clean streets full of unusual shops. Loved the museums. The beach was great for walking and will go back in the summer. Easy to get to by Eurostar Rotterdam and metro. Kunstmuseum was absolutely brilliant. Cafes and food was so varied and good prices.

September 12, 2023

The hotel is easily reached using Tram number 17 from Central Station towards : 'STATENKWARTIER' - not 'Waterdingen' (that is the opposite direction). Exit stop 'Elandstraat' or ( going past hotel and hrough little plaza)- 'Zoutmanstraat'. Taking 17 towards 'Statenkwartier' ultimately takes you into Scheveningen, change there to 11 Tram for another 3 or 4 stops to take you nearer to the Scheveningen beach. Try to activate your digital key on the boking confirmation you receivd from the hotel via Booking.com. That might save you a lot of problems ifyou arrive after 8pm.

Den Hague, it a beautiful vibrant city with lots of friendly people, there is lots of things to do and places to visit. It has a great city centre with lots of shops. The food in most places is reasonably priced and there are loads of places to get a soft or alcoholic beverage. You will thoroughly enjoy it.

A nice city with excellent public transport, lots of good museums, parcs, good restaurants and a nice atmosphere. It's an interesting starting point to visit the nearby sea and other cities such as Leiden and Delft. Rotterdam and Amsterdam are also closeby for a day visit.

Being on a scientific volunteering trip I had restricted time "to make tourist". Anyway; Guided tour through water channels is perfect. Seaside area (close to Pier, but also beaches further) is "must", especially if whether is nice. Downtown, its sights, highlights, but also atmosphere and variability are worth to see and feel.

Wonderful city with easy access by tram to Scheveningen on the coast. The Mesdag Panorama was a treat to behold. The Mauritshaus has world class paintings. Both are worth travelling to The Hague for.
