About Sopot

Including tips for the best time to visit Sopot

Situated on Poland’s Baltic Coast, Sopot is renowned for its bustling resort nightlife and the vibrant atmosphere of Monte Cassino Street. Known as the ‘Tri-city’ because of its proximity to Gdansk, Sopot is easily accessible by regional transport links.

Sopot’s coastal location means there’s plenty of beach activity. While the climate isn’t the best for sunbathing, the city is home to Poland’s largest pier, suited to long promenade walks to the city’s famous lighthouse. In the city centre, Monte Cassino Street is home to many of the city’s bars and restaurants, taking on a new character at night. For cultural excursions, the Church of St George, the Grand Hotel or the Crooked House showcases Sopot’s best architecture, with rooftop parties going on into the early hours. In winter, Sopot is transformed into a bustling ski resort.

Dating back to the Pomeranian rule of the seventh century, Sopot has always been a valuable trading spot for the Baltic Coast. During the Middle Ages, the city remained a small fishing centre before being transformed into a spa town for the wealthy residents of Gdansk. After a period under Prussian governance, Sopot changed its name to Danzig and was occupied for a time by the Nazis during World War ll. Today, Sopot experiences a period of regeneration with spa resorts built along its pedestrianised shorelines. Head to the Sopot Museum to see postcards, prints and art exhibitions detailing the history of the city and the Classzen family.

This apartment is in the center of Sopot, close to shops, restaurants, boulevard, etc. Our room was not facing the busy street so it was quiet at night ensuring undisturbed sleep. The apartment is luxurious, clean, sunny and spacious. A great pick for two couples traveling together. We loved our stay and four days gave us plenty of time to see Sopot and get to Gdynia and Gdansk on the trains. We were very lucky to score free parking in the underground car park close to the apartment as well! The leaky bath needs attending to as it floods the bathroom floor when you shower but other than that, we absolutely recommend staying at Monte Maison.

I have not been to Sopot in many years as I have lived n the US for along time, but the visit was worthwhile. I was there during the long May holiday, so it was abit crowded, but managable. The weather was brisk but sunny for the whole duration of my stay. I ate a couple of times at teh Seafood Station next to teh train station. The seafood there is oustanding, pricey but worth the money.

It's a beautiful town, lovely old buildings, stunning beach, longest pier in Europe that is on wood supports. Just in the other direction from the beach the town is bordered by a forest, containing a track and field stadium, and a most unique Forest Opera, a must see. Lots of good restaurants, special mention to Sopocki Młyn, on the outskirts of the town, but well worth a visit for the outstanding food.

Sopot has a great infrastructure with beach bars, summer festivals, and natural resorts that are really close to the city. It is great to spend there few summer days sunbathing, watching a movie on the Molo, and having a ride to Malbork castle as a basic minimum. The city and whole region has much more to see though :)

The beach could be cleaner. A lot of shops. A lot of different cool places to eat to choose from. A lot of nice beach located caffès and restaurants. Good prices on beer. Food was very good in a lot of places.

We just love Sopot and we like to come for a whole year even during the winter. Walking on the beach or along the beach is always nice. You have a feeling of a nice small, traditional resort here. Nice restaurant options in Sopot but also in Gdansk and Gdynia. We'll come back.
