About Ao Nang Beach

Including tips for the best time to visit Ao Nang Beach

The resort town of Ao Nang Beach makes the most of its scenic location along Thailand’s Andaman Sea coast with its sunny beaches, marine life-rich waters and breathtaking natural beauty. Cultural experiences, island hopping and abundance of water activities attracts visitors from far and wide to this paradisiacal spot in the Krabi province of the country.

Within the town limits, head to Ao Nang Krabi Boxing Stadium to witness traditional Muay Thai wrestling matches or indulge in a relaxing massage at a local salon. If retail therapy is what you need, then the town’s main street is where you’ll find dozens of small shops selling everything from beachwear to knick-knacks.

There’s no shortage of things to do in and near Ao Nang Beach. A short drive north from town will take you to Dragon Crest Mountain, where you can hike to a lookout point offering jungle, island and beach views. At Princess Cave in the south, you’ll find stalagmites and stalactites as well as opportunities to go snorkelling and rock climbing. Boat tours to nearby isles like Ko Kai and Ko Poda are also popular here.

Ao Nang Beach has some of the most famous beaches in Krabi. The town’s namesake beach sees an influx of tourists during the high season but is a highly recommended spot to watch sunsets. Railay Beach – divided into east and west – has spots to go kayaking, rock climbing and swimming against the backdrop of towering limestone cliffs.

did not use the beach for sea bathing.

25 April 2024

did not use the beach for sea bathing. There were jelly fish on the beach indicating that the water may not be safe . But the view of the sea from the beach, is super fantastic. Restaurants along the beach are really cute.

We stayed three days in a hotel on the beach.

10 April 2024

We stayed three days in a hotel on the beach. We were lucky to have two big pools and waterslides for kids The beach is pretty dirty with a 3m high roadway to the side, rocky with lots of tree roots to get down, a few uneven access points Beach is dirty, this year with a record number of jellyfish - probably one every two to three metres in the afternoon - so you have to be careful this year and the water is out of bounds (Krabi and Trang provinces inundated, we had a couple of days in Ko Lanta that were clear and the dive sites were clear offshore) Lot of noise from the long tails and music pumping from bars If the party scene and weed smoke blowing over your dinner is what you want, have a great time. For families there are better locations

It is a very good place to go for island trips.

6 April 2024

It is a very good place to go for island trips. We went to Hong Island and we loved the boat ride, the island, the jungle walk there and the beautiful 360* view from top of the Hong Island. And Ao Nang has lovely stores for shopping. Every evening, night market is held here from 5pm onwards where you can enjoy the fire show, awesome roll ice creams, juices&drinks and street food…the locals exhibit their hand made art and souvenirs here. A must see place for everyone visiting Krabi…

This appears to be the best place to stay as a jumping off...

4 April 2024

This appears to be the best place to stay as a jumping off point for the day trips to the islands and some of the inland trips. Shopping, food, and entertainment all close by. Only about half hour from the airport.

I love this beach.

3 April 2024

I love this beach. It is scenic, with a view of mountains. It has some trees under which you can shelter from the sun. There were plenty of restaurants, Bars, and places to hire sunbeds if you don't want to lie on the sand. Some monkeys come down from the Monkey Way, a walk that you can go on which takes you to another small, quiet beach. The monkeys appear on the beach in the morning time when it's not as hot. The tourists sometimes feed them. There are places on the beach where you can get a cheap massage. The beach is long enough that it allows you to find quiet areas no matter how busy it is. Some boats go out to all the different islands from the beach, but they go out from one particular area, so this does not affect the swimming. This is a good beach to swim from

Nice Place not a lot of beach, until the tide was out.

1 April 2024

Nice Place not a lot of beach, until the tide was out. Local shops are very tourist-oriented, with way too many wacky backy shops (but some would probably enjoy that!). The night market was nice for food and music. Lots of site seeing tours to go on, way too many for this review
