About Pattaya

Including tips for the best time to visit Pattaya

Pattaya is one of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations and for good reason. Packed with bars and nightclubs, golden beaches and tropical sceneries, Pattaya buzzes with a hedonistic pulse. Visitors that look beneath the surface will discover a place with rich cultural heritage too.

One of Pattaya’s most popular attractions is Pattaya Beach, a golden stretch of sand perfect for relaxing during the day and partying well into the night. If you’re after something calmer head down to Jomtien beach. It’s not as busy as Pattaya Beach and offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy water sports such as jet skiing, parasailing and windsurfing.

A holiday in Pattya isn’t complete without exploring Walking Steet. The street closes each night to vehicles so that visitors can make the most of the enormous range of bars, nightclubs and restaurants. Scenes of revelry fill the neon-lit strip, offering a sensory overload and timeless memories for partygoers.

There are plenty of cultural monuments to visit in Pattaya after a late night of fun. Check out the Sanctuary of Truth, an intricately carved wooden temple that features various Thailand architectural styles. If you feel like a little exercise, head up Phra Tamnak Hill to see the temple Wat Phra Yai, known for its large golden Buddha statue and sweeping views of the area.

This is a very sad place that has lots of lonely, desperate people. Interestingly enough, I've been to Phuket about 12 years ago which had most of the same things, like tons of massage parlors, but I did not experience it the same way as I did in Pattaya. When you get there, you'll see the same thing repeat straight thru on every street: massage parlor, cannabis dispensary, 7-Eleven, with an occasional MacDonalds. What you'll see walking around are a bunch of old koots with their 20 yr old girl friends (although they don't know that these girls are using them). Desperate, Lonely, People on Both Sides! Also, there is no real swimming beach. It's loaded with thousands of boats, but there is a small roped off area. This is to protect the swimmers from boats and supposedly jellyfish, but I cannot confirm the latter.

Some of the worst places I have been in Thailand.

December 4, 2023

Some of the worst places I have been in Thailand. Its all about sex and money it seemd. Welcome to the capital of sex-tourism. Anyway if you are not into old wracked bars and hookers, try to stay away from pattaya central beach. Jomtien beach is a good option. If you expect nice bars, cafes and beach clubs Pattaya is the wrong place to go. The same if you expect some culture. The beaches are beautiful, as most beaches in southeast asia, but the surrounding and quality of hotels are not worth a visit.

Pattaya is always great, but.

November 9, 2023

Pattaya is always great, but..... I have noticed since Covid that it is not the same place as it used to be It is now all about money, money, money with less smiles The local Thai's are amazing as always, but others running more than 50% of the businesses now are not as amicable It is a shame, it used to be the best place to relax, party or shop I just hope it returns to what and where it used to be before Covid

This is an excellent location if you don't want to be in the middle of all the downtown activities. It's close enough to walk or take a quick Bolt taxi. I found Grab to difficult to navigate through all the pop up ads which mislead you to unwanted things. There are several facilities nearby. At the end of the road if you go right there is a 711 and food courts,, If you go left there is a 24 hour coin op laundry service. There is a wonderful woman who works there. If you give her 100 Baht and enough coins, she will do your laundry for you and have it ready in about an hour. I also gave her chocolates. I suggest you do the same, she is really nice. I've attached her pic. She wears a uniform also.

Pattaya is a good place to visit if you want a variety of entertainment and shopping. Depending on your taste it can appear a bit sleazy, or you might just ignore the bars and massage parlors and see a variety of businesses trying to survive. It’s a very busy town after about 11:00 and and gets really busy when the sun goes down. It may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I think it is at least worth a look.
