Located in Punakaiki, 1 km from Punakaiki Scenic Attraction, Punakaiki Beach Hostel has a garden and a terrace. Free WiFi is available.

An array of activities are offered in the area, such as cycling and fishing. Punakaiki Beach Hostel has a private room called the Sunset Cottage that sits apart from the hostel and is a lovely little cottage that has a small garden with flowers, a view of the ocean, and beach access within steps. It is very close to the Pancake Rocks, but right down on the beach. The scenery is beautiful! The unit has a small refrigerator, dishes and flatware, glasses, tea cups and mugs, and an actual teapot, tea leaves, and a tea ball, which made this tea lover very happy. There is a funky, but charming table and chairs on the front porch for enjoying a supper while watching the sunset. If you want to cook, there is a well equipped kitchen in the hostel. We highly recommend this spot!

Just 900 metres from Grey River, a popular swimming spot, Brunnerton Lodge and Backpackers offers free Wi-Fi and free bicycle rental. Located in a historic miner’s pub, it features rooms with lovely garden and mountain views. Great room. Loads of space for en suite bathroom and kitchen plus bedroom all in one area. Well equipped and clean with good facilities. Outside area comfortable with loads of chairs to relax. Chickens roaming. Loads of carpark area. Location is good, just outside Greymouth, local old mine memorial just down the road. River access close by as well. John the owner was lovely and anxious to please everyone and meet us all. Would recommend.

YHA Tripinn Hostel Westport is 4 minutes’ drive from Carters Beach and the popular Coaltown Museum. Westport Airport is a 12-minute drive away. Very cool historical building. The hostel is very well organized, great big kitchen. The son of the owner was in charge the days we stayed in the hostel, he was a very kind/great guy! He was super helpful and gave us great recommendations.

Haka House Franz Josef Glacier is a 2019 Winner – Certificate of Excellence (Trip Advisor) and offers backpacker accommodation with a choice of shared or private rooms. All rooms are heated and some have an en suite bathroom. Good location, clean, nice kitchen
