Tropical Winter Wonderland
Though Campos do Jordão is located in the country of ever-lasting summers and lush jungles, the town is better known as a winter paradise. Its secret resides in its altitude of 1600 metres, which makes it the highest in Brazil, and therefore one of the coldest. Once you’ll be surrounded by Alpine architecture and tempting local chocolate, you’ll be amazed by this beautiful place.
The first settlement was established during the second half of the 19th century, and the dry and cold weather was quickly appreciated to treat lung problems. The later progress of medicine transformed it from health resort into a laid-back winter retreat. Nowadays, Campos de Jordão offers a large variety of hotels and is the preferred winter destination in the country.
Known as the ‘Brazilian Switzerland’, the winter temperatures below zero make it the national capital of fireplaces and warm food. Apart from the chic private winter residences, charming Swiss-style hotels and cosy ‘pousadas’ are available throughout Campos do Jordão.
