This accommodation has a gorgeous location in a charming village, just a few steps from the German border. Our room was really well-equipped, spacious and has a breathtaking view to the surrounding mountains. The athmosphere of the hotel is extremely pleasant. We can highly recommend.

A beautiful place just 14 km from Salzburg, you have everything you need for enjoyment and relaxation, with a beautiful view of the Alps, a food and drink shop nearby, a perfectly decorated and clean apartment, Mrs. Renate is a wonderful person, regular bus service and a stop in front of Kaiser Karl that takes you to Salzburg but also on the other side of the border, in the Bavaria area which is also beautiful, you must visit Bad Reichenhall which is 4 km from Grossgmain and have a wonderful time

Just a token quantity of tea/coffee/sugar/milk. This place is out of the way and people arrive at night. The owner ought to think about this, It wouldn't cost a lot but would mean so much. She could add it to the bill and it wouldn't affect her. I can see that the 'system' she has set up requires minimal input from her. I get that. But...we/guests arrive at night - there is no local shop (the petrol station is a bit of a hike). It would be nice to have a cup of coffee. She would expect that if she traveled abroad I'm sure.. This is the first place like this that has not had at least a few sachets of coffee/tea and milk. But having met her I believe she might be strong-minded and will not agree - no insult intended. I can understand that.

This was generally a nice place and I would recommend it and would stay again. I chose Grossgmain because, as a seasoned visitor to Salzburg, I just am fed up with the ridiculous hotel prices in the City and frankly they - a lot of the hotels - have lost their charm. Grossgmain is 40+ mins by a very pleasant and cheap (!) bus. This 'hotel' was Clean and very warm. Goodness knows what the heating bills are like! I say 'hotel' because this is, as you understand I am sure, a self-catering place really. But it still seems like a hotel in some respects. Nice Italian restaurant on the ground floor of this place. Ate there a couple of times. Nice people running it. A family I figured. Not entirely sure what the set-up is, but I felt the restaurant is entirely separate to the 'lettings' of the rooms/hotel above, but the arrangement obviously works pretty well. There is also a very pleasant cafe in the town (50 metres distant) where you can get a fab breakfast - real quality, worth a visit. Or two. Opens on a Sunday too. And the hotel next door, I only remember it as Hotel Volterol - like the ibuprofen pain relief but spelled differently ..not 'Volterol' - it has a great restaurant. It does a super breakfast and has a lovely evening menu - try the salt beef.. There is also a classic Austrian hostelry restaurant at the other end of town which has a traditional menu - great Schnitzels. A walk of a mile or so, not far, but well worth the walk. So, Grossgmain is an outlying town and as a tourist you will be in the minority, but once you understand the place it seems to to have just enough to make it work well. The town and this hotel I recommend.

The only thing and it is a VERY minor point, we struggled with the feather pillows as they do not offer any support. As I say, being very picky as the apartment was beautiful. Maybe some more pillows, firmer pillows or cushions world help. Also a double duvet would be nice.

Loved the space, the bed, the facilities, the view, the staff, and the location. Communication was also very good and they couldn't do enough to help.

Fabulous apartment, spacious and comfortable with everything we needed for self catering. Great location just over the Austrian border. Good shower, parking good unless the restaurant below is busy. Fantastic mountain view with a lovely balcony. Very quiet. Lots of storage space and comfortable bed. Lovely owner.

Nothing to complain about, just a few rainy hours...

Friendly hosts and a beautiful environment. Three years ago we had mainly explored the Berchtesgadener environment, this year we have also discovered and enjoyed the hidden treasures of Bad Reichenhall.

Only real downside that I can think of was the bathtub/shower combination. It's not really suited for older people. I stayed here with my grandma and she could not use the shower and had to use a washing cloth instead and wash herself the old fashioned way.

The staff were very friendly. One of the men working in the restaurant downstairs even offered to help us carrying some of the luggage. The hostess is very friendly and helpful and her english was good. The room itself was spacious with a pretty big balcony with a nice view. You could see that the furniture was old but it fits good in with the whole aesthetic of the building. Parking was also good. The kitchen had plenty of equipment (even a toaster!). The fact that there is an italian restaurant in the same building was nice. You would always smell delicious food when walking down the stairs (if you are sensitive to smells don't worry, the smell would not reach the upper levels were the rooms are located).

According to the photos, there is an oven and a hob in the accommodation, but these did not work. At least a microwave would have been good instead, but unfortunately there wasn't any in this apartment.

The accomodation is in a beautiful setting, in a beautifully renovated old building. There are plenty of wonderful sites in the area on both the Austrian and German sides.

Nothing special about this property. The lady will ask you to pay cash for your stay, something that was not specified on the description of the property, so a bit of an inconvenience. Check out is 10:00am which is a bit of a challenge when traveling with a baby. Oven does not work. There is nobody to ask any questions, just the restaurant staff but they do not seem to be involved in the hotel operation. Parking is quite small and needs to be shared with restaurant guests, so if you arrive during dinner hours you might not find a parking space. This should not be called a hotel, there is no cleaning service. We were there 4 nights and nobody entered the room to clean, change towels or clean the washroom. Bring your own toilet paper, they will only provide 2 rolls for 3 people for 4 nights... you need to make it last! The stairs are quite steep, so if you have mobility issues, please consider another place. We got a room in the second floor so there were 2 sets of stairs exactly the same.

The restaurant in the main floor is nice, they have good Italian food. We had pizza which was amazing and pasta another night which was also good.
