Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomIt was very busy when we stayed which meant the kitchen and bathrooms were in demand.
Staying at the prison is a great novel experience. Our room was bigger than expected, it was clean and it was easy to access all local attractions in Freemantle. We especially liked the warm, friendly reception from the lady who checked us in earlier than the scheduled check in time.

AustraliaStayed in the double room with bunk beds, it was an experience. It’s also expensive for what you get, Perth in general is silly prices for accommodation. The fan didn’t work in the room either.
Good location and handy walk down to cafes, pubs. Nice big kitchen and lounge area, washing machine facilities are cheap and clothes line to dry if needed.

AustraliaIn the private rooms, the shower curtains were super frustrating to deal with and they didn’t stop water from going everywhere, as well as only having the option of overhead rain-shower heads. Also the lights in the bathroom being on a timer. There was many many many times it would go out whilst sitting or standing still, and even when in the shower if the shower curtain was drawn. That was the biggest pain point, however after a couple nights I got good at strategically timing a quick arm wave to trigger the sensor to stay on. The rooms could use more power plugs, as I travel with a sleep apnea machine, I had to sacrifice space for my other electronics and my partners devices on the other side of the bed. This could be solved with extra power boards in the private rooms.
Location was great, the facilities were cleanly. I stayed in a private room. It was modest, had the essentials, and was basic and very clean. I loved the aircon, and the mattresses were surprisingly comfy. I loved the decor in the halls, including the graphics of prisoners escapes, etc. the staff were super friendly, and the guests were friendly too!

MalaysiaSmell. Stinky smells the moment you stepped into the place, probably bcs it was previously a prison. But the aircond was vry smelly when turned on n on heat mode. The water dispenser at the reception tasted like prisoners' water as well. Truly a prison experience.
Kitchen is huge with multiple refrigerators and equipments. Room and toilet is quite big.

ThailandWould need a bit more "cosy" spot with sofas and such. Also, the water ran out at some point in the evening... But it was fixed very quickly!
Good location: walking distance from the town center and the beach. Nice vibes from another time, living in this old prison setting! The room we were in was quite spacious to put your luggage and spread a little without bothering the others. Overall it seemed quite clean but we didn't use the kitchen.

AustraliaNothing really.
Location was great, not far from Freo centre. And where else do you get to stay in a prison?! The cells are small, but kind of the point! Kitchen facilities were also decent. Would definitely stay here again.

The bedroom was clean and comfortable, especially the bed. Despite the lively nightlife in the area, the room was surprisingly quiet. The staff was friendly and helpful. The area surrounding is filled with restaurants and pubs, providing ample opportunities for enjoyable leisure time.

AustraliaNot much- the history of the prison and Fremantle itself - it had so much to offer. Beautiful city to explore.
The vibe was so relaxed, people quietly doing their own thing in each of the common areas - inside and outdoors. The kitchen was huge and easily shared by half a dozen people at once. With no stress. I really felt that inclusion of ages and cultures was handled beautifully. The staff were lovely, organised, but not in your face. They were knowledgable and able to direct us to solutions e.g. parking arrangements with PayStay. The prison was historical and fascinating. Nothing was perfect but the authenticity of the venue was such an experience. The cell we slept in - really made you reflect upon what it was like for the convicts.
