How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

I have NO complains..
Very Clean, very comfortable and very hospitable hosts. They are kind, helpful and happy to assist in anything you need. It's like a home/hostel...the ambiance is peaceful, green surroundings and very well located. 2 to 3 mins walk to Vila Madelena. The owners and staff were all very friendly....i recommend this place to everyone....Thank you Zen Hostel.

I was so lucky to have found this place. Great staff, clean and quiet. As someone who works while traveling, this place was absolutely the best. Great wifi, coffee in the mornings, tea all day, and comfortable areas to work. I am definitely going to come back!

Nothing! It's a wonderful place.
I really love this place. It's only a 5 minutes walk to a metro station so it's easy to get around the city.. The neighborhood is very safe. The indoor and outdoor common areas are nicely designed with plants and Buddha statues. It's a perfect place to relax after busy days in the city. The shared toilets and showers were always clean. It's the kind of relaxing place for adults, not young partiers. They have a common refrigerator and microwave, as well as free drinking water to refill your bottle or tea. The staff is friendly and helpful.. You can also walk to Pinheiros and Batman street art from here.

Hot water pressure can be improved.
We have stayed in Sao Paulo in 3 different budget options, and this one is by far our favorite. The hostel is gorgeous and has a chill social vibe, great patio and common areas to hangout in, and very kind staff. Shared bathrooms were always clean, and always available. Location is great - a short walk to subway station, thrift stores, bars and restaurants.

Would be nice to have non overhead lighting (like a small lamp for the bed).
So peaceful and quiet! Loved the garden area, bathrooms were spotless and the bed was very comfortable.

To be totally upfront, I booked a hotel in Avenida Paulista but I changed my mind when I saw the reviews about Zen Hostel. I immediately cancelled my 1st hotel and booked this amazing and peaceful Hostel. I didn’t regret at all when I saw the surroundings that it gives me a Bali vibes. Shoutout to Caina which gave a me a good impression about the facility. The receptionist was so friendly,smart, helpful,and he will really give you an extra mile when needed. I will definitely comeback for a lot of times here. I miss the smell of my room and the smell of the lush green environment. And it was a plus that I met a lot friends from France, Germany and locals from Brazil. I must say I left my heart there. Highhllyyyy recommmmendedddd guyyyssss 1000000/100. -John , a travelling nurse .

The cleanest hostel I’ve ever seen in Brazil. The people who work and stay are kind and friendly, and chill. My room was well organized and the bath room was shared, but nothing problem. I’ve stayed in Brazil for 3 weeks and stayed here for couple of days, and I’m sure this hostel is clearly the best one !!! I’ve reviewed for the first time in this app cuz this hostel was perfect.

No AC in the room, but it was cool enough at night with the fan that we didn’t need it. No breakfast offered, and the staff weren’t always super helpful, but these were all minor issues.
Our room was small, but very comfortable. There were lots of common spaces and they were all very nice with lots of greenery. It was super quiet there and felt like a very relaxing home base while in São Paulo.

The bunk bed creaked a lot and often woke whoever was on the bottom if the person on the top turned about. WiFi went down for one of the nights.
One of the nicest hostels we stayed at in South America. The place was beautifully decorated and felt very peaceful. Despite being deep in the city, you felt right next to nature with all the plants which helped to keep the building cool. Not far from the hub of Vila Madalena area.
