Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing. Some people might think it is expensive, but compared with other hotels and restaurants in Switzerland it is good value for money.
Excellent location high above Lake Lugano with views towards and of the lake. Very friendly and welcoming staff in the hotel and restaurant. Comfortable, good-sized room, very comfortable bed. Very clean throughout. The restaurant is excellent - great food, very helpful and friendly staff. There is a lovely terrace overlooking the lake. It is very easy to park at the hotel and we had no concerns about safety. If you are passing through as we were, there is no need to change any money into Swiss francs, as the hotel and restaurant accept cards.

AustraliaAll good.
The staff were very friendly. We had a lovely room with a balcony and window overlooking the lake. The setting was tranquil, the view incomparable. Our room had a little kitchen for preparing a meal. The bed was very comfortable, and breakfast in the morning delicious. The Bellevue Bellavista is the perfect place to stay if you intend to visit the Hermann Hesse Museum, which is two minutes away.

SwitzerlandThe bus service is direct but only on an hourly basis. However, it does take you directly into the town centre in 15 mins.
Breakfast was great, with a beautiful view from the terrace down to the lake. The hotel garden has beautiful old trees and the view from the roof terrace is breathtaking. Bus stop right out the door. We didn't use the kitchenette but it would be a great asset for a longer stay, with a folding table and view over the lake to the mountains.

NetherlandsThe bed was made out of two separate mattresses and blankets. If you want to sleep together, not ideal. The hotel is very pet friendly, but the downside is that you can hear barking pretty well.
We were looking for a nice place to celebrate the New Year's eve. This place was perfect, as it is a short drive from the city centre, but located in a quiet neighborhood in Lugano. The room had a great view, with a balcony and a kitchenette! Perfect if you want to cook a little something instead of eating out all the time, basic kitchen utensils were all there.

United StatesThis location is peaceful but I would have probably preferred to have been closer to town for more dining and other options.
Cozy and comfortable small hotel that sits outside of Lugano in Montagnola, about a 10-15 min bus ride from near the train station (buses run once hourly only). Welcoming and considerate staff (thank you for the lovely box of chocolates on my birthday!), and nice restaurant adjacent to the hotel offering dinner. View of the other side of Lake Lugano from the hilltop and a 5 min walk to a tiny village with small market, bar and a couple of other dining options.

United KingdomThere wasn't a desk space but I was able to convert the foldaway table and to bring a chair in from the balcony so it was ok. Unfortunately, the street lamp shone into my room all night and the curtains were quite flimsy (white) so they didn't block the light at all. Breakfast was fairly mediocre, nothing made it special.
The room was quiet and reasonably large. There is a lovely view from the restaurant.

South AfricaWe had a double room with a balcony and kitchenette on the 3rd floor. The hotel is situated in Montagnola, on the hillside overlooking Lake Lugano and some of the lakeside towns (I think Agnostic and Magliaso). There is free parking just off the road at the hotel’s entrance. The view of the lake from our room was fantastic! The room was spacious with a large double bed, plenty of cupboard space, two armchairs, a TV and a kitchenette with a 2-plate hob (no microwave), fridge and two of everything we needed for preparing/eating small meals. There was no air conditioning, but there was a standing floor fan and we left the balcony doors open at night, just closing the shutters, which was perfect. The bathroom had a shower in the (small) bath. Breakfast was included in the cost of our room and comprised yoghurt, fruit, cereals, eggs, pastries, ham, salami and cheese. A Free Local Transport Pass was provided by the hotel, which we used to take the bus into Lugano - Bus 436 stops every hour right outside the hotel and we took this bus into Lugano, where we got off at the station and crossed over into the Old Town. The Transport Pass also allowed us free trips on the funicular from the bottom of Old Town back up the hill to the station. The hotel is in a quiet area, which is pleasant to walk around. There are a few restaurants and a small supermarket within easy walking distance. The restaurant in the hotel has a good menu , including a big selection of very tasty pizzas cooked in a wood-fired oven (and the panna cotta was sublime). The hotel receptionist was really helpful and friendly. The elevator wasn’t working whilst we were there, which made getting our big suitcases to and from our room challenging. But we had been informed about this in advance and were given the option of cancelling our booking, which we appreciated - and the technicians were working on the repairs during our visit. I would happily go back to this hotel.
