Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandThere was small issue on our second to last day which was resolved immediately.
Private, semi secluded and just a beautiful place to holiday. The endless food that kept coming was amazing and the private pool was a bonus.

New ZealandFrom the moment we were collected from the airport to the day we left, we were treated as special and valued guests. The villas are exceptionally well-appointed and comfortable. While they're luxurious, they still feel like "home". A difficult thing to achieve, but Aitutaki Escape has managed to do this. Thomas and his team made every effort to make our stay memorable. We are grateful for their efforts to help us - from a delicious breakfast delivered every morning, arranging a hire car , arranging lagoon tours and helping us find somewhere to eat in the evening. The private pools are a bonus, and we made good use of them - especially in the evenings. We would highly recommend Aitutaki Escape and look forward to returning one day.

New ZealandI was expecting better for the price we paid. It’s the most expensive place on the island so we were expecting premium. The place is tired and needs some maintenance. For example one of my sinks was blocked, the other tap shot water directly at you so brushing your teeth was rather challenging. My friends shower had no hot water. only 250mb of internet is free (can only be used on one device), you have to pay after that runs out. The internet is spotty at the best of times. The walls are paper thin and if you share a wall with any other room/ villa you can hear everything. The villa next to us was watching a movie, and I could hear every word in my bedroom at midnight. The owner was very apologetic about this and gave us some complimentary coconuts for this which was lovely. There is no bar or restaurant on site so get a rental car or be prepared to pay for taxis. They can make you a meal on site but you have to book this in advance and you’ll have to eat in the lobby/ reception area, which is less then appealing if you are paying $1700 a night. The beach was not clear and full of sea cucumbers which personally grossed me out. The chickens wake you up at all hours, rat drooping on top of the fridge and many more unexpected little things we didn’t expect for 1700 a night! We also stayed at the private Island lagoon resort and honestly it was way better, it was half the price with an incredible lagoon view which was on par with bora bora. The water was clear there with an on-site bar and restaurant there. The accomodation was definitely nice but not worth how much their charging.
The staff were very friendly and attentive. The daily breakfast was delicious!

New ZealandLOADS of mosquitoes! Makes it hard to enjoy outside, even during the day. Water has pooled under the deck due to a long leaking tap I think and you can smell stagnant water even on the sand by the beach in places. It will take some time to rectify. The beds are very hard, hubby got a sore back and had to sleep on couch. Could do with a decent topper pad or replaced. Lots of little things not working at the time we were there, but they could be fixed by now. I found the idea of daily breakfast delivery a bit invasive, would have preferred breakfast ingredients just left in the fridge at the start of the week and we look after ourselves. In all, despite these few niggles, it was a great stay.
Location is amazing, beautiful beach, gorgeous sunsets. The whole villa is wonderful, comfortable and very spacious. Great kitchen, fully equipped, and great living area. Very lovely hosts and staff. Very accommodating and helpful. Nice breakfast and changed daily too.
