Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Hostal Vaihere locates conveniently close to Hanga Roa downtown area which means a big plus for travelers who don't have a car. The hostal appears to be regularly taken care, especially the garden area which make it more appealing. But the outstanding aspect of staying at Hostal Vaihere would have to be Ita, the hostal owner. In addition to his deep local knowledge presented through his strong organization skills which well met our tourist needs, Ita also possesses artistic and creative talents. In other words, we could sense Ita's pride of Rapa Nui heritage in which rituals appear exuberant through his welcoming flower lei and goodbye gift of a seashell and feather necklace as well as his well-shot videos and pictures of the island. We felt deeply touched by his gestures of kindness and genuine care, especially when we got sick. Ita's offering of a fresh bacalhau so that we could make a wonderful consommé to heal from our serious cold is unforgettable. We'd definitely not hesitate in a heart beat to recommend his lodging to friends and anyone else. Thank you, Ita.

United StatesThe place could use some updating. Kitchen was pretty sparsely equipped, making it a bit of a challenge to cook meals. Offering a bottled water station would be nice too.
I'ta, who runs the place , is a great guy. He knows a lot about pretty much everything Rapa Nui. He was always helpful and available to guests to deal with any issue or help make arrangements for tours, rentals, etc. Nice quiet location just a block or two from main street.

Great location just a block away from the main street, with a lovely host who gave lots of good recommendations. The beds were very comfortable and i slept well there

GermanyOn the whole, it is difficult to find a negative point of criticism.
This accommodation makes you feel welcome and gives you the opportunity to have a good time on this unique island. Very positive is that you get a lot of information about the uniqueness of the island and you get information about tours, language, culture and background.

United KingdomThe room was absolutely filthy, with black marks on the walls and dusty, sticky table, where you couldn’t possibly leave your stuff; bedsheets completely worn out- had to use my sleeping-bag liner. No towel & no fan as described in the ad. Bathroom & cooking facilities need a very good scrub… No mosquito screen meant that you need to keep windows&doors shut at all times, to protect yourself from dengue fever, which makes it unbearably uncomfortable without a fan… Didn’t see much of the owner tbh, so was a bit disappointed, as that was the reason why I went for this place. We had no hot water for a whole day, but that was fixed the next day.
Location is very good. About 15 min walk from the airport and 10 min from main road. Warm welcome with a flower wreath & lots of info at check-in. Nice little communal garden.

NetherlandsBathroom was very dirty. The room was not very clean neither. They did not even have hand soap in the bathroom. No towels provided but when I asked for one, I was provided with a towel ‘as an exception’. A handsoap and a towel should be a standard min! The small kitchen next to the room was used by hotel workers and they made a lot of noise early in the morning.
Host was friendly and helpful with sharing local information on arrival. The location is close to the main street and restaurants but it is on a side street with 5 min walking. At night it is quite dark (no street lights) and all streets are full of stray dogs. It makes the walk unpleasant. It has a nice small garden in the front with flowers. With some work, hotel could be much better.
