Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe hotel is in the centre of the Historical Tongli. It is very quiet and picturesque. The trees along the canals, the architecture, the bridges, the shops, the cafés, the restaurants are amazing.

SingaporeI do not dislike anything about the property. However, when I tried to locate the inn via a local Suzhou map app, it led me to the wrong place. We ended up dragging our luggage throughout Tongli for close to an hour. Thanks to the helpful locals, we managed to locate the inn eventually.
Location is excellent! It is central and located in the middle of Tongli. The furnishings are vintage. Although newly renovated, it preserves its traditional chinese design throughout the whole inn.

United KingdomI made the right decision to stay overnight and experience the romance of Tongli when most tourists have left. The hotel is right in the centre of the scenic area , next to the Three Bridges. The girl at the office was really great, friendly and very chatty. Gave us all needed information of both hotel, where to eat (I am vegan). The hotel is more like a home, lovely setting, nice small pond with fish. Bedroom had 2 very comfy double beds and big shower too.

NetherlandsEverything else is great, but the cleanness was not good when we visited. What a pity. Apparently the cleaning lady was in vacation and the front desk girl had to take care of room cleaning but she is not experienced. There were clear marks on the floor when we checked in. And we had to remind her to refill toilet paper and clean the trash. The hotel management should be better to find a replacement for the cleaning staff when the regular one is away.
The location is great. The hotel is at the most shady area along the river in TongLi, which makes it pleasant in hot summer. Directly outside the gate is the river with many trees. One can take a boat not far away. The garden is wonderful, small and elegant. There are many colourful fishes in the pond, and some beautiful tiny fishes in the water tank. The living room is big and nice: we often sit on the sofa while chatting with others, and we used the dinner table for one dinner with ordered delivery. Very very cozy living room. The password-locks at front gate and bedrooms are convenient to use. The front desk girl replied quickly to my questions, although she is not always familiar with the situation as she is new.

United KingdomEverything was excellent.
The hotel has a "like home" atmosphere complete with both very friendly owners and friendly cats. Tongli is very small so the location doesn't matter so much, but being right in the middle of the water town is very nice. The owners went above and beyond making us feel welcome. The hotel building itself maintains a nice balance between the modern and the old and was even used for a popular Chinese series in the 1980s.

United StatesWe were the only guests there the first night. So I don’t think it would be a lot for the owner to at least come to the town entrance to guide us to her Airbnb. We got lost in the town with a heavy luggage and a toddler. The residents there were surprised that the owner didn’t come to guide us. The owner also gave us the wrong info that the town would charge us if we get in between 8-5. We told the security that we stayed there and got in before 5pm. The owner was unavailable at the site and late in responding to messages when we stayed there. We couldn’t find her every morning. There was a huge coffee machine just for decoration I guess. No coffee /tea provided any morning. We weren’t told how to check out or who to give the door keys to. We eventually gave to a cleaning lady. It’s a little far from the city center. It would be a better place for people who lives in Suzhou to get out of the city but not outside travelers.
It’s a cool building. Beautiful Suzhou style architecture with fish ponds. Rooms are big. The little town is very neat, people are friendly. You can take a rowing boat to get around the whole town in 20-30 minutes.

GermanyThe whole water city is very moist, and unfortunately, the building was moist too (e.g. the bed even felt a bit moist). That´s probably not the owner´s fault, but made the stay a bit unpleasant. We expected the atmosphere to be very inviting and familiar because of the comments, but unfortunately that was not the case. The only staff was a girl that did not really know how to accomodate guests. For example, the text she sent us said that there is a free luggage transport to the hotel. We took that and she organized it, but when we arrived she said we should pay (the English text she sent said it was free, the Chinese version did not say it was free - but as a foreigner of course I did not translate the Chinese when there is an English version). It was only 30 RMB, but she refused to pay the driver and did not even excuse the mistake. Of course we paid it to him, but the overall impression we got upon arrival was not that great. Overall and compared to other places in the town, the inn is also a bit overpriced.
The inn in Tongli is located next to a canal in the center of the water town. We liked the old building and its architecture, especially the wooden carvings and the fish in the little stream in the courtyard. The owner was nice and understanding, so when we left two days earlier due to the weather and the hospitality issues (see the section what we did not like), she refunded us one night.
