Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsA better mattress. Was not the worst and it was not a big deal, it was totally worth it. The accommodation it's in the jungle so you will need a car to reach it. If you are bothered by the noise of the wild livings then maybe this is not the place for you, personally I loved it! We would wake up at 5 and watch the jungle waking up, brilliant!
This place it's like a piece of heaven, in just a few hours from the arrival we spotted so many animal. Our cabin was next to the water and during our stay we have seen: toucan, agoutis, squirrels, coatis, otters, a tarantula( we think) a green basilisk, turtles, green iguanas, honey bear(kinkajous)and hummingbirds. The host was very kind to point out animals that were around, like the toucan, kinkajous and the iguanas.

Costa RicaBeautiful place immersed in the tropical jungle. Great hosts as well. My only suggestion is a water filter dispenser in a common area for people to get potable water. Other than that amazing!

United Kingdomthere was no drinking water available but the owner did give us some on request. There is no kettle in the room either, but was also given to us on request.
the property is surrounded by the forest and you get to see lots of animals and plants. we watched a sloth really close to our veranda. the accommodation itself is very basic but has most of the essentials and comfortable. you can get breakfast at the property at $8pp and it’s basic (toast, jam, eggs, fruit and coffee/tea) but really nice.

United KingdomThis was such a special place to stay. It is ten minutes’ drive from the vibrant town of puerto viejo but you feel like you are in the middle of the jungle. The hosts were very friendly and happy to show us the many animals that live around them including sloths, tree frogs and raccoons.

GermanyIf you are without your own car and carry luggage with you it’s a must to take a tuc tuc or a taxi or a bike to get to the lodge.
Great secluded lodge in the jungle Very friendly hosts who gave us lots of great hints for animal watching and the highlights of the region. The nice wooden chalet was very comfortable. The shower was amazing: never had the option of showering cold and warm in the jungle before- awesome! We could hear howler monkeys in the morning and saw tucans and monkeys as well. If you get up early in the morning this spot is almost better for animal spotting than the national parks. The breakfast was also great: some fruit and bread with jelly as well as eggs, coffee and orange juice.

DenmarkA bit far from the road, so you either need a car or bicycle for a longer stay. Wifi wasn’t great but worked most of the time outside on the terrasse.
Lovely cabin in the jungle with plenty of space. Sloths and howler monkeys just outside of the terrasse. Great place to stay to spot animals. Very nice hosts! It’s easy to take taxis to/from Puerto Viejo town (approx 5 USD each way) or go to restaurants on the main road.

DenmarkSome small details but in no way anything to spoil our overall positive experience: -not having a boiler/coffee-maker and a small fridge in the room -the breakfast was somehow limited for what it costs (bread, butter, jam, omelette or smaller omelette+fruits, coffee or tea) -the loo needed some TLC
A jungle retreat, still a short drive (or bike ride) from beautiful beaches and the many nice restaurants of Puerto Viejo area. The lodge is rustic so do not expect a lot of modern amenities. But on the other hand you can spot sloths, monkeys etc on the trees just outside your balcony :) Not to mention the ducks, Maxim the dog and the visiting agoutis. Our wooden room was clean and very spacious and fitted perfectly the environment. Our hosts were very nice, clearly loving their surroundings, and with suggestions on what to visit, where to dine etc

United StatesThere is no potable water. That means you can't drink the water out of the tap or brush your teeth with it. I have no idea what the water contains that would make it not potable. If you stay here, bring your water bottles with you. Second, the smell of mildew is very prevalent. See pictures attached and you will know why. A gallon of bleach would make a big improvement here. Walls, furniture have mildew. The bathroom toilet and sink could use a good deep clean.
Convenient to town. Hearing the monkeys in the morning.

Costa RicaNice place, a little pricy and more in the jungle that we thought. During day it gets really hot although its under the trees. We didnt mind , but if you plane to stay during day for working etc, think of that and of course think of the mosquitos. The matress in the master bedroom was already a little old. Biggest minus: I honestly travel a lot and I must say that the part that I would give less points for is: beeing really in the jungle and far away from everything, I had more luxury and better situated houses for a cheaper price. It was even low season. But Irene is really nice and made us a better price at the end.
Irene is really nice and brought us everyday new towels. She showed us animals and a slot. Good breakfast at her place. Nice but of course not luxury place but with everything you need. Feels also safe.

Costa RicaThere's no drinking water in the property and this was not communicated prior to arriving. It can be really dangerous and we were upset that after taking a shower, we still felt dirty. One of my piercings got infected, so definitely beware if you have piercings, this is not the place for you.
