Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomWe asked for a disabled room we were told an extra 50 Euro for a down stairs room. We declined because it was a one night stop off. Climbing up the stairs would have been easier with proper hand rail not red rope which was very difficult hold onto. The food was tasteful but very expensive for a small portion. After a very long journey we were hoping for a good meal. It would have been nice to have a bigger choice and type of food. You need to cater for a more variety of traveler’ our room was small and dreary it needs brightening up. No duvet? The toilet was running water all night we did report it the next morning. We first thought it was the problem from next door.
Absolutely beautiful a lot of work gone into it, making it as original as possible. Appears they want it for the elite type of person. A shame because it has so much to offer. I would have loved to have bought a book about the history of the Castle from there.they just had leaflets

United KingdomEvery aspect of Hattonchatel is wonderful and unique. If I were to think of one small niggle it would be that breakfast could be a little more comprehensive!
The location of Hattonchatel is stunning, the building is beautiful with friendly, helpful staff. Our meal at dinner was outstanding in fabulous surroundings.

NetherlandsRemote location with not much to do around. Unfortunately room was not clean. We had so many flies staying in our bed. And spiders and spiderwebs were all around the place. Restaurant was OK but a bit overpriced. Unfortunately fireplace was not in use.
The Chateau has an authentic and historic atmosphere. Nicely preserved. We were glad to stay with our cats. A good option for time travellers :)

United StatesThe rustic charm and medieval style of the chateau in the countryside was exactly what we were looking for. The connection to the First World War is also very interesting.

United KingdomNo table to put my computer on - had to have it on my lap when sitting in the armchair. Food came too quickly after the aperitif so no time to enjoy the aperitif. Hot milk at breakfast was tepid so not so good for a hot chocolate! Although down well in time I was the last for breakfast and some items could have been better topped up. Not shown how to work heater in bathroom
I liked the armchair in my room to relax in and also the library was good for relaxing too. Atmosphere was very good. Dining room is vaulted and wonderful to be in. Wonderful views - would have been great to sit outside if the weather had been suitable Shown the facilities and how to work the heating in the bedroom No television

NetherlandsThe chateau is also - and rightfully so! - a popular wedding location. When such events take place, that might affect the experience for individual travellers.
This is all about location and dwelling in luxury and history! The chateau on the hill is a private place, many tourists walk up to the gate to find that there is no access for them to the grounds... guests only! Once inside, the castle itself and especially the fantastic view is strikingly beautiful. From the courtyard you overlook the landside below to far, far away. Just spectacular. The rooms are fair sized and comfortable. A decent breakfast is (buffet style) is served in a pleasant setting in the tower room. We missed dinner, but that looked superb too. Okay, it may be a bit pricy, but for us it was well worth the wonderful experience. Oh, and don't forget to stroll through the pittoresque village, just lovely!

SwitzerlandThe room we stayed in on the ground floor is truly wonderful, beautifully decorated and comfy, only trade off to be aware of is that you can hear people guided around during checkin and going to have breakfast in the morning. Not a big deal though!

SwitzerlandThe food was fantastic but a little too nice for a four year’s old palette. the kids menu is slightly too nice that it was too much for little kids, who sadly like chicken nuggets and fries! Bring snacks if you have kids!
A beautiful old Chateau set high up above the surrounding area. nice well kept gardens to relax in, great food and some nice rooms like the library to relax in. Full of charm and history with great staff who obviously love the place too. There is a tour for all guests. Fantastic that dogs are welcome and there’s a small pet shop in the village. We had a suite and our 4 year old slept so well in her separate room. The roll top bath was enormous!
