Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

South AfricaThe rooms were spacious and big but the door to the patio was broken and I would propose you add a small table with a light on both sides of the double bed. The aircon is installed above the table on the patio causing the heat to blow on you when you want to sit outside.
The private beach right in front of the hotel with an amazing view. And the swimming pool is perfect to relax and drink something cold.

GreeceThe rooms are pretty basic with old bathroom with a shower curtain, old air conditioner and old, noisy (and a bit dirty) fridge, without hairdryer (which is provided if you ask the staff). The mattress was okay but the pillows were too hard. There was minimum soundproofing and you could hear the rooms next door (the pluming was loud and the doors were loud). The hotel has a very basic bar with only a couple of options for food or drinks, that closes at 8pm which is not very convenient, given that the location of the hotel is very remote.
Nice location and nice traditional building. The staff was really accommodating and helpful. The room was clean and the cleaning staff was providing us with fresh towels and sheets and was tidying up our room every day. The sea view and the beach were nice.

United KingdomWriting this comment after finishing our 10-day trip in Greece, experiencing 7 different hotels throughout the journey - all great with amazing customer service. All except this one. Couldn’t be more disappointing. We were shown a “double room with sea views” which was nothing more than a creepy technical room where they put a creaking bed and a smelly bathroom. As for the sea views that the pictures associated to this type of room on Booking.com showed..? maybe we could have caught a glimpse of a view when twisting our necks by the tiny window over a noisy and dirty fridge. At first we thought it was a mistake, told the staff about it and asked for an alternative. They were clearly embarrassed about a situation they were obviously conscious of but couldn’t offer to move us to another room as the hotel was fully booked. The gloominess and bad smell of the room were too much to bear so we had to book another accommodation elsewhere (so much better by the way…), more expensive considering the short notice. But the worse part in this is that Lalloudes wasn’t even able to provide the slightest compensation for this obvious deception. For us it is was a deliberate intent to deceive customers through fake pictures of the actual room and charge them an inappropriate amount for very low standard accommodation for the sake of maximising occupancy. So be careful before booking anything with them: you might find yourself in a sordid place instead of the lovely room you expected and have to pay full price for it.

GreeceSmall dark old depressing room, close to a power generator that made noise during the night and we couldn’t sleep. No Wifi or cell phone signal. View of a rock in front of us, at 3m. The breakfast was some kind of catering arriving cold in a box (didn’t touch it). Make sure you avoid standard room at all cost because it feels like robbery. Probably only the sea front rooms are OK and the rest are really bad (perhaps worst hotel experience in my life)
Only the location/beach was satisfactory

ItalyHotel was "closed" at 20:00. No bar, no pool, no people, like a dormitory. Power grid failures. It happened once. Power was restored at 11:00 the night. Facilities, for a hotel where meals/diners are not served, considering that it is used from families with young children, I expected a small kitchen in the room or on a common area. Breakfast served in an box (!?) Business people that own the hotel must try a little more...
Location is excellent. Personnel is excellent too, very friendly and kind. They are trying a lot. Cleaning was very good in a daily basis.
