Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyThe breakfast was supplied from a local bakery including "tonnes" of plastic and wrap around papers.
Brilliant renovated buildings, nicely refurbished interior, fantastic balcony. The Art Hotel is located in the middle of this tiny village. Breakfast is on demand...we ordered one for the first morning (greek style), it was way too much.

AustraliaPillows could be more comfortable. Provision of a coffee machine and kettle in the room would have been perfect.
We felt like we were staying with family. Hosts Theofanni and Christos were very helpful and informative and their passion for the preservation of the Montemvasia history and heritage was wonderful. Downstairs is a library and art gallery which was very interesting and added to the uniqueness of the property. Breakfast was served on outdoor balcony. (Extra charge supplied by nearby cafe) was substantial with the best homemade spanakopita, Greek yoghurt and honey and omelette. The hotel is very stylishly decorated. Adults only policy makes for a serene stay. Very good communication from hosts about how to get there and heads up about the rocky undulating nature of the walkways plus many steps. You wouldn’t want to be dragging heavy luggage from car into castle compound and to hotel so it was good they informed us at time of booking.

United StatesIt was perfect! There wasn't anything I didn't like.
What a fantastic place to stay and I cannot express how beautiful the hotel is and the location of where my room was. Truly a magical experience. I wanted to stay in the castle town rather than across in the modern town and am so happy I was able to stay at the Theophanos Hotel. I stayed in a room towards the top of one of their buildings and there was a wonderful rooftop patio right near my room. Great location to watch the sea from and in particular the sunrise. My room was so cute. Very comfortable bed and great bathroom. I had a small balcony that looked out towards the lower and upper town. Just beautiful. The staff were so friendly and helpful with suggestions on places to eat. They were also helpful answering questions about areas to visit and see. I was able to meet the owner Ms. Theophanos who was a wonderful person. So nice to talk to her and learn how she came about getting the hotel, how it was restored. She was also very generous and gave me some home made bread to take with me on my bus ride back to Athens. I cannot recommend this hotel enough! I now know where I will be staying if I ever go back to Monemvasia.

SpainThere should, at least, be coffee/tea supplies in the room. Also, when booking, one should be told to follow the path near the sea to the hotel. Otherwise it is difficult with heavy suitcases.
Theophano Art Hotel is beautifully appointed!! It was well positioned and quiet. The rooms were very comfortable, clean and staff were lovely. The owner gave us some history on Monemvasia which was interesting.

Great location the view is breathtaking! The architecture of the hotel is outstanding but the whole town in the castle keeps the same style . It’s like living in a medieval fairytale . As for the room was Very nice with old style furniture and most important they were keeping it clean everyday ! There was also a small lovely terrace next to our room so you can sit and admire the Myrtoan sea.

ItalySleeping inside the walled city is an experience not to be missed. The hotel has a main building that serves as a reception area, tastefully decorated with windows overlooking the parade ground of the military fort. The town's main church is open in the same square. The rooms are located in several small houses near the main building. They are small, cosy rooms with wooden furniture. Our room had a bed with a headboard, small armchairs, mirrors, a nice old table, all in 19th century style. The bathroom was all marble and new. The air conditioning, which in Greece is a must in August, worked perfectly. From our little house we enjoyed a view of an enclosed garden within the walls of another partly ruined house, with birds singing in the morning and crickets all day, and a view of the fortified mountain. The owners are cultured people, infinitely polite and hospitable. It is a place for people with refined tastes, simple but elegant. The owner does not prepare breakfast, but it can be ordered on request (4 different menus, tasty and plentiful!) and served on the small terrace of the main building from 9.30am to 11am. We hope to return sooner or later! Thank you again for the warm welcome!

United KingdomNothing. Maybe the facility for making coffee in the morning would be a nice add on. Monenvasia is beautiful but somehow hard in the exceptional heat we experienced. We recommend you to follow the good advice of the owner and make sure to take with you only the essential in a rucksack and leave the rest in the car. The walk to the hotel from the gate with luggage is a killer.
The place is stylish, clean and beautiful. It was great every evening to get back into the fresh room beautifully decorated and smelling wonderfully. The small balcony with sweet grapes was also lovely

United StatesNot a thing!!
We loved everything about Theophano Art Hotel! The rooms and location were stunning looking out to the sea, and enveloped within the castle walls (that are full of wonderful shops and tavernas). But, the best part of the trip was Theophano herself. An amazing, vibrant, creative, and enormously welcome and kind hostess. Theophano made the trip extra special. We love this place!! Hope to get back!!

United StatesAs I mentioned above, it was difficult to use the balcony during the day, due to the lack of any protection against the sun. But that may be because umbrellas (or other types of protection) are forbidden by the building code or some other code of conduct across the historic site of Monemvasia.
Theophano is perfectly situated within the Castle of Monemvasia, near the main plaza of the lower town. This is a family-owned business and the owners know how to make you feel welcomed from check in to check out. The room was rather spartan but nothing was truly missing, and the view of the sea from the windows and balcony was splendid. It was difficult to sit on the balcony during the day due to the punishing sun (but umbrellas may actually not be allowed throughout this historic site and it may not be an oversight at this particular hotel, where little else has not been given some thought), but it's unlikely you're going to want to leave the balcony later in the day. I didn't opt to add breakfast to my reservation, so I cannot comment on that. But I do recommend you talk to the hosts about the hotel's history. You will enjoy the conversation, no doubt. I'd be happy to stay at Theophano again!
