How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The room was a little humid so we tried to run the AC but there were no batteries in the remote.
The location was great for the morning ferry to Split. Excellent parking space. Wonderful friendly owner.

The streets are narrow so you have to be careful navigating but it wasn’t a negative to the property.
I liked that it was within walking distance to restaurants and the main town. Also, there is a family restaurant that has excellent food.

Host was super nice. She welcome us warmly and provide us with all the information we needed. Room was clean and tidy. There was also a cute patio with orange tree which smell amazing 🤩 Place is located in the city center, very comfortable if you are coming with jardolinija

Marina and her daughter, Ariana, were wonderful hosts. We were greeted by Ariana who was welcoming and shared information with us. The apartment is large, with a well equipped kitchen, and nice bathroom. The beds were very comfortable and we truly enjoyed our stay. The apartment was within easy walking distance to the town and ferry. After leaving we realized that an item had been left in the apartment. Marina did an amazing job of solving the problem and reuniting it with us. Thank you both for an amazing experience.

They have a cat which I was allergic to. Owner was kind enough and changed our sheets after they got contaminated with the cat hair. Fridge is in a very inaccessible place, stuck under the stairs which go to the top of the building. Should be moved.
Very nice little place, in a quiet alley in the city. Passionate helpful owner, showed us with things to see, which beach to go to. All facilities are as they should be.

It was small but had every thing we needed. Close to town. Lovely courtyard. Marinka and Dario are so amazing and would do anything for you.

Could be useful to have a microwave.
The location was perfect, right in township, less than 10 min walk to the ferry, bus stop, taxi boats. It was clean, spacious, comfortable and well equipped with utensils. The owner was exceptionally friendly & helpful. She gave us restaurant & activity recommendations.

Bedding was a bit dated but no issues for what i needed which was a good nights sleep!
I had to book Mara last minute because my other hotel cancelled and she was incredibly accommodating and sent me to bed with a compliment and a cheeky shnapps!

During the night we tried to get the air conditioner and fan to work but neither would work. We should have checked these things earlier so Mara would have had an opportunity to work it out for us.

The owner was very welcoming and helped us with parking car (the streets in this town are sooo narrow). There is outdoor space tou can use and we sat there in the evening. The apartment had everything we needed. Nice stay in Vela Luka!

Everything you need for a short stay. Very comfortable room with facilities to make tea or coffee. Lovely outside space. Wonderful welcome from the lovely, smily owner, with welcome drinks. Absolutely lovely. The owners are super friendly and extremely helpful. They went out of their way to help us when we were stranded due to their Labour Day (bank holiday). We can’t thank them enough for a wonderful stay X
