The carpet in the rooms could be removed as its old and rooms have a bit of a smell. the breakfast options for vegans is very limited so after couple of days of eating the same food gets boring.

Heating in the room was at 23°, unbearable for us, but impossible to turn off. I had headaches at night because of the high temperature and dryness in the room. Pillow is what I call a "ghost pillow", Austrian style, I don't understand how can people sleep on that. Spa area and gym were great, the only problem is that other customers using them showed total disrespect for the others and behaved like they owned the place, playing with a ball, or playing music from their phones as if they were the only ones there. I would have appreciated the presence of someone from the hotel keeping an eye on the situation and making sure this is a relaxation area and not a playground for uncivilized people. Last remark: we had two families staying in the rooms in front of ours, and they also behaved like they owned the place, playing loud music and letting the kids play in the corridor with no respect of those who wanted to rest. Maybe it would be appropriate to accomodate couples and families in different parts of the hotel.

Amazing location just in front of the sea, spacious rooms, great buffet breakfast, very kind personnel, especially the waitresses at the restaurant and the lady at the spa center. This is a very nice hotel although many things could be improved.

Was a bit noisy and crowdy because of “coupon guests” who don’t know how to behave - due to that it would be good if hotel management would make sure that life guard is present at the indoor pool&spa to maintain rules and order.

Hotel needs to be refurbished. Parts of hotel equipment and outside areas (park, access to the beach) are not in best condition. Parking is limited and is payable (17 €/day); but there is a bus stop in front of the hotel, so you can leave your car during stay in hotel. Meals/food selection could be somehow more creative - at least for a **** stars hotel.

Good location, at the sea - with walking path along the coast. Exceptional kind and helpful staff. Nice and renovated wellness. Fast and stable wi-fi in the room.

There is a nice wellness center in the hotel. The pool is huge. The only downside is that in the sauna you can't wear a bathing suit. That means most people are naked. It would be nice to have at least a time slot during the day when people should at least be coverd in a sauna towel. Maybe more people would enjoy the benefits of the sauna world this way.

The location of the hotel couldn't be more perfect. Right next to the sea. The view from our room (905) was amazing. We also had a huge balcony. The room was very clean and tastefully decorated. The beds were comfortable. The bathroom was clean when we arrived and was cleaned every day. Breakfast and dinner were both buffet style. Huge variety. Something for everyone 's taste. The staff was very helpful. You have to pay about 18 euros/ day for parking in the hotel's garage. But parking is free in the street so you just have to find a spot. It can be tricky during the peek summer season. We would definitely choose to stay in this wonderful hotel.

The staff are brilliant and very polite. We had a half-board and stayed in a family room (two connected rooms), very spacious and clean. Food at the restaurant was excellent, both for breakfast and dinner. The hotel is on excellent location, you can easily go walking by the coast all the way to the city of Opatija, or take a short bus/car ride. I'm not sure for the parking during the high season, but in November there were plenty of free parking spaces around (parking in Lovran is free).

The staff is lovely. They greet you with a smile and the service is very fast. The staff in the wellness/spa center are particularly nice. The room is ok, beds slightly too soft for my liking. The balcony is excellent, you only get direct sunlight for maybe an hour in the morning (in October) so you can spend the entire day there, looking over the sea. Breakfast and dinner were both good, lots of choices, and the food was tasty.

The coach tours which seemed to operate daily meant meal times were very busy. I am not sure all the guests would have appreciated the Liburnia Hotel's hospitality function (presumably for the travel trade) held poolside in Monday evening which seemed to start about 6.30 pm and went on somewhat nosily until close to 11 pm

The Excelsior is a modern hotel with great public indoor and outdoor spaces and three pools (one inside). Our room (902) was spacious and comfortable, immediately off the lobby/reception. It was easily found on the main road through Lovran opposite a petrol station. More importantly, behind the petrol station was an area of free parking, which the hotel kindly directed us to. Parking outside the hotel was a manageable 15 Euros a night or 18 Euros in their garage. As we arrived on a Sunday, made busier by the annual Chestnut Festival, we did park outside on first evening but there was plenty of spaces after the weekend. First evening we dined in the very spacious restaurant-a bounteous buffet at 19 Euros a head-so very good value. As it is a large hotel we were not surprised to find a number of coach tours as fellow guests but this did make the restaurants busier and not so peaceful or relaxing. We very much enjoyed the access to the seaside paths below the hotel, with short 10 minute walk to the center of Lovran but we also enjoyed a 12 kilometer walk to and from Opatija along the "lungomare". Breakfast offered plenty of choice and excellent range of food of all kinds, included in our very reasonable nightly price of room.

We stayed four days in the hotel for our wedding anniversary, we are in love with Lovran. We were upgraded to a suite, it was such a nice gesture of the hotel! The room was spacious, very comfortable and the view is just spectacular. The private beach is great, and the staff is really nice and friendly, the location is one of the best. We will definitely go back!

The carpet throughout the hotel has stains on it. It is very expensive and you need to pay for the garage additional 18€\ day.

Although we were satisfied, I think the hotel should try to take some steps on these three issues: 1. In the rooms, where guests with pets are, instead of carpet, a different kind of flooring would be a better solution. Though house-broken dogs do not dirty the carpets either. 2. I expected from a four star hotel a better quality orange juice for breakfast. 3. The biggest issue is, however, that the non-smoking and rooms where smoking is allowed (either in the room or on the balcony) were not located in distant blocs of the hotel buildings. Or, if there are NO rooms where smoking is permitted, then the non-smoking rules were not enforced. Why is this an issue? Because when one comes to a hotel near the sea, it wants to smell the clean air coming from the sea and the nearby pinetrees and not the tobacco smoke coming either from one of the neighboring rooms or from one of the rooms below. This is obviously a bigger problem when young parents come with their small kids and see their one and only room being filled with tobacco smoke/smell when the kids are about to go to bed or are already sleeping and cannot really do anything to stop the process. By designating a wing (of hotel buildings) distant from the non-smoking wings for smokers might solve this issue.

Not in order of preferences: the restaurant, the view, the willingness of the hotel management to accommodate guests with pets. But perhaps the most: the Lungomare and the large trees around the hotel and along the Lungomare.
