Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeThe lack of toilet for ladies only. It would be better to have a toilet than a urinal on second floor and the urinal downstairs is not working as well so it can get congested at times. The pillow is rather thin so you may get a strained neck in the morning. The noise from the common area upstairs can be heard
It’s clean and new renovated. Although the listing said that internet is not available, there is actually very fast wifi internet access available and the dining area has bread, jam and mineral water available for guests to enjoy. The owner is a very nice and friendly Thai photographer and massage therapist who drops by once in a while. The host is a nice Japanese lady who keeps the place meticulously clean.

GermanyThe location is rather on the outskirts of the town, so the walk downtown is kinda long. Also, the seagulls have chosen the neighboring building's rooftop for their nest, and around 3:30 am they start screaming really loud (at least that was the case in August). The hotel provides earplugs, but if your sleep is fragile, it's not going to help much.
A nice clean place with a very friendly owner. She kindly helped us book the whale-watching tour with a discount. The coffee/tea/toast station was a nice bonus.

United StatesStay here before going to Shiretoko the next day. The building is very new and clean. The tatami room is minimal but I enjoy the little breakfast room area next to the kitchen area where you can relax, surf the net, have free coffee, and watch TV; one side of the room is a glass wall where you can watch the street outside. The two shared bathrooms are big and clean; one has an onsen bath which you can enjoy on your own. A very nice place to relax after a long day hiking; exploring the region or a long drive. Although the most minimal, but this is my favourite stay among my 8 days trip driving around Northern Hokkaido. One thing to pay attention to: they don't serve dinner and all the restaurants in the town close around 7 pm. We had to buy food from a convenience store for dinner.

Hong KongThere are only 3 toilets for all the guests. It turned out to be adequate but you would feel it is not enough. Same for the shower room and the bathroom. And it got worse when one guest locked the outside door and so the other one became not available. I think the outside door should not be locked.
The staff is really friendly and explained a lot of things to us to help us settled down. We did not order breakfast but they still offered a simple breakfast to us.

South KoreaRoom was a bit small and it was pretty hot at night.
Very friendly, kind and welcoming hosts. Really nice finishing touches in the bathroom and bedroom. You can tell the owners know how to run a property. Also we liked this side of the peninsula more.

ThailandNo bathroom/toilet en suite. Hotel needs some small renovation work. 20 minute walk into town, so a car is useful! Air-conditioning was useless.
Complimentary tea/coffee throughout the day in the small dining area, which also contained a microwave and toaster.

JapanI can hear the sounds of other people living and talking in the common areas. This is understandable if you think of it as a guest house, but it may be difficult for those who seek quietness comparable to a hotel. I didn't mind it that much, but it depends on the person. If you understand this point, I think it is a very good place to stay overall.
Just after renovation, beautiful and comfortable space. The owner is a man from Thailand with a charming smile. More reasonable than other accommodations around Utoro and Rausu. They don't offer dinner at the moment, but I would like to come back when they start serving Thai food. Thai food in Rausu, isn't that fascinating?

CanadaI don’t like shared bathrooms but they were very clean & a lot of places have that style around here. The room was extremely basic but had what you needed for a night. A comfortable stay. Breakfast was simple w/ toast & soup & was appreciated.
The owners were very friendly & helpful. The property felt remote & was cared for well. Everything is new, clean & in good working order. Staff responded quickly & clearly to all requests. I would recommend if you’re looking for a place to lay your head for a night.

JapanCouldn't book 2 nights in a row online; however I could book 2 individual consecutive nights. Room comfort would benefit from air conditioning; sea birds nesting next door made keeping windows open overnight impractical.
Outstanding family running the business. Location suited our family travel whale watching plans.. Our whale watching company advised us of a small room rate discount deal with Bear Elephant; a pleasant surprise not advertised by the hotel. The shared bathroom and toilet facilities were always clean. Probably the most comfortable futons we've slept on.

Hong KongNo air conditioner which is quite "warm" on a summer night. A seagull nest on the house rooftop just right opposite the hostel, which you can hear nonstop cacophonous squawking starting like 3-4ish AM!! Staff is very friendly, she did give us heads up regarding the birds, however the level of noise is way over my expectation! Regret i didn't take the ear plug she offered when checkin.

As we were on self driving trip, the location of the hotel/Inn was only 4 mins drive into Rausu Town. Bed was comfortable and room was alright. Breakfast is just toast and free flow of instant coffee/tea or hot cocoa. The place was well renovated, so things looks pretty new.
