Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaMy biggest gripe is that the beds were horribly uncomfortable, definitely one of the roughest sleeps I've had backpacking here. Sleeping on plywood with little more than a blanket under you doesn't conjure much sleep. Other than that this place was great, it felt alot like a cottage, complete with the woodsy smell.
The staff were an absolute delight and Rum (the dog) was easily the best part of the hostel, I love the way she spins in circles when she's excited. She also likes to dig at the floors, and steal slippers, haha all the slippers had teeth marks in them. 🤣 She was such a delight and helped me when I was missing my dogs, the only problem is that now miss her! 😭 I had an absolute fantastic time here and spent much of the trip just lounging in the lobby chatting with other guests, hanging out with the dog, and talking with the owners. I honestly was really tempted to stay longer, and I honestly wish I had but my time in Japan is limited so I had to get moving to my next destination.

CanadaUsing insect repellent in the room would be great. Mosquito repellent for skin is provided, but having one to spray the room would be better.
There is a bus stop right at the bottom of the hill that brings you to the Hakone Shrine. The neighbourhood is quiet and pleasant to walk around. The room is capsule style with a futon, which is on the thinner side. Onsen, with a shower right by, can be used for free, with a limit of 20 mins.

JapanWalls were thin. The room was a bit cramped, especially if you have two suitcases. The edges of the room and the heater were very dusty.
The guests spoke good English. The guesthouse was divided into two buildings, which helped to reduce the noise while keeping the welcoming guesthouse atmosphere. The room was quite traditional, with tatami mats and futons. The dog, Rum, was very friendly. There is a bus stop 4 minutes walking and a train station 14 minutes walking.

IranIf I am to be super strict, I’d point out two things. These are not major problems though. To those who are a bit claustrophobic: My bunk bed was situated at the corner of the dorm room and mostly enclosed by walls in such a way that it kind of made me feel suffocated at first, but then I got used to it. One more thing to keep in mind: The shower is located in the main part of the building while my dorm was in the annex. If you take a shower on a cold, windy night and then come out to go back to your bed you might tremble a bit. If you catch cold easily, beware of it.
-The location was easy to find. It was just a short bus ride + a very short walk to get to the place. -The breakfast was delicious and clearly made with love. ごちそうさまでした! -I really liked the decorations and details of this guesthouse. They give it warm, friendly vibes and make it look more cozy and welcoming. -The bathroom was real interesting haha -The owner was super kind and respectful. The doggy was sweet. Moreover, locals came to have a drink there so I can say that staying at this guesthouse provided me with an opportunity to talk to local people.

GermanyIt got kinda warm and stuffy in my capsule (had one in the back) but it was fine
It was really cool there, they even had a free Onsen to use (maybe I skipped it while reading, but I didn't know) and the staff is very friendly and helpful. The mountain view outside of the hostel is great. Walking up there from the station with 10kg on your back wasn't the best idea but was definitely worth it!

Sri LankaNot a negative but just to be aware that shared room is in an annex, and there is no shower there so you need to take a short walk outside.
Staff very friendly & approachable. Able to leave bags free of charge. Room clean & bed cozy. Didn’t eat at guesthouse but noticed food of other customers looked delicious.

AustraliaIt is on a hill, so be mindful if you have a bit of luggage with you that the incline to reach the guesthouse is quite steep. But there’s a bus stop right down the bottom of the road that will take you to Odawara station :) be mindful that the shower/toilet is separate, in the main house and you’ll be needing to walk through the main bar and lounge area.
A lovely stay at the Hakone Guesthouse Toi. The staff are really friendly and accomodating. There is a private onsen you can use for 20 minutes which is a nice touch and I enjoyed sleeping on the tatami - my first time but had really decent sleep. The shared spaces and bathroom were nice and clean and had toiletries if need be.

PolandThe place is messy and a little dirty. One toilet has some cloth sticked to the toilet seat which is disgusting. There is a detergent to clean the seat while you can't use it. The other toilet doesn't have the cloth but there is no detergent also.
It was cheap, well located.

United KingdomThe toilet in the annex was rlly small and there were strange gems in the sink which I think were meant to be aesthetic but were a bit odd.
It was very cute. The location was rlly good - it was nice to wake up to the hills every morning. The dog was very sweet too. The ladders to the top bunks are quite hard to get up and down.

QatarJust a warning: Access is tricky by foot. It's right between two bus stops. The closer one requires a steep roadway ascent, which can prove difficult with luggage. The other station offers a downhill but requires a walk along the main road that has no shoulder room. Air-conditioning was a bit temperamental but worked with patience. Towels not included.
Cozy place. They speak decent English; the owner especially. Very accommodating. We slept in the twin room, so to speak. Need to climb some narrow stairs to get your luggage to the room. Bar/reception area is at the bottom of said stairs so no walk outdoors is required to get to and from reception or dining area. Very basic. All in all, a nice visit. You get what you pay for, let's put it that way.

Good clean but basic hostel with lovely staff and dog :)A Had private room with mats on the floor. Had to walk to next building for a shower but the Onsen more than made up for it! Probably better to go in summer rather than February .

AustraliaIt was kind of hard to get here, having to take 2 busses from Fuji, then walking along a mountainside road with no pedestrian tracks. Would probably be easier coming from Odawara or something. Also the beds are seperate from the main building which made it very cold to travel between showers and beds in the winter.
Staff were very friendly and spoke excellent English. Onsen was great and the rest of the facilities (such as beds) were great too.
