Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe hotel interior and rooms are outdated. Breakfast buffet was underwhelming and overpriced and did not cater to western tastes. Asked for a boiled egg (instead of raw) but was told that it was not possible.
Location by the lake was perfect. View from our room was lovely too.

United StatesThe halls had low ceilings. My son is 5'10" and he had to mind the signs or he would have knocked them with his head. There was a smell in the bathroom, so we had to keep the fan on. It appeared quite clean, so it was likely the drains or in the wall. Beds were on the harder side, not egregiously so, we thought they were fine. We would love to stay here again, but if you are fairly tall or really like soft mattresses, you might find it less comfortable than we did.
The location was right on the lake, convenient to the JR bus station and lake cruises, and there is a path along the lake from the hotel up to the shrines and statues. The dinners, part of the package we booked, were really something special. They had a wide variety of foods and local specialties. We stayed three nights and they were never the same. The room was a good size. The onsen was really nice after a day on the lake.

JapanCould do with charging ports by the bed.
The view of the lake from the hotel is fantastic and the staff are extremely helpful. I went to see the waterfalls and discovered on the way back that there’d been a bus accident and the boats were also off due to a weather warning so I started walking back. I messaged the hotel and they sent someone to pick me up. After walking 25km that day, I really appreciated their help!

JapanWifi was slow and sometimes disappeared completely. Breakfast was a tray set with bread available, everything looked lovely but I would've appreciated knowing what the breakfast was going to be - as a vegetarian, I couldn't eat most of it and wouldn't have ordered it had I known.
Lovely staff and the lake view from the restaurant was stunning. The baths were awesome and quite empty (maybe I went at a good time?). Very close to the ferry, bus stop and the Marin Blue Cafe which does delicous apple pie.

JapanHotel decors look like they were from the 70s. Really old and tired rooms and the TV looked like it was from the last century. If you did not sign up for meal plans for dinner, good luck looking for anything in town coz nothing was open for dinner after 630pm. It was actually quite sad as we stayed there on a public holiday Friday night.
Nothing. Probably should not have stayed in Lake Towadako area

ThailandThe breakfast service felt a little rush, with the staff clearing away things even before the closing time of the breakfast hours.
It is a typical good old Japanese resort hotel. The service was top-notch. The staff was most courteous and service-minded. They did everything in their power to make sure we were comfortable. The views from the restaurant and the lobby were perfect.

Japanno restaurant or bar, all restaurants in the area closed, was told to go to another hotel to use their restaurant when asking about the onsen, ours isn't very good use the other hotels onsen it's free, charged for using it when asking about upgrading the room to a lake view, from a lake view*, no that's what you booked although the room was large, the beds were uncomfortable, no soundproofing at all, and the room was dated... to top it all off I was charged premium resort prices for an old room that could be seen into from the hotels behind, with no facilities or services at least the staff were prompt, if unhelpful

JapanYou can't select a meal plan on booking.com (you automatically get the basic plan) The public baths has a bit of a urine smell which is off-putting They had a fridge in the room but it wasn't working. The Yukata robes are always welcome, I think they could make a better job for their pattern. Currently looks like a prisoner's outfit. They provided a baby plate and spoon, but nothing other than that (baby didn't pay). They had chairs for slightly bigger kids, but not babies.
I liked the big room facing the lake. The star view is amazing too. We got the basic meal plan and dinner was delicious. They have a public bath as well as a sauna.

JapanCons: didn’t inform us that no restaurants were open in the evening and that dinner needed to be prebooked to have it at the hotel. So we were unable to eat. We had to drive 45mins each way to find a place that was serving food without a booking.
Pros: close to lake
