Nothing, everything was perfect!

We loved everything about our stay at the Symbol of Ella, Indika was an amazing host! He communicated with us via whatsapp prior to our stay and was extremely responsive and helpful. The room itself is beautiful and has everything you need, including a hairdryer and torch for getting back from town to the room via the short cut at night (takes about 5minutes and does have some lights along the way). The breakfast was exceptional- we had Sri Lankan breakfast every day and by far it was the best we’ve had in Sri Lanka! Indika was extremely helpful with suggesting things to do in the area and arranging our onward transfer at a reasonable price. Him and his family also helped us with some laundry too, again at a reasonable price and everything was returned smelling fresh and ironed! We really cannot recommend the Symbol of Ella more and look forward to suggesting it to all our friends and family or returning if we come to Sri Lanka again!

This place was great! The host and his family were super kind and helpful (helped me out with a nice place for a massage, did laundry on request as well). You can contact him with any questions. The room is beautifully styled and spotless clean, and has everything you could think of. Really good bed! Then the breakfast... amazing! Pancakes, coconut roti with dahl and sambol, fresh fruit, fresh juice, tea.. the best! Also received a nice fresh juice when I arrived. On Google maps it seems further from the main street, but there is a shortcut! The host will show you. It is 5 minutes walking to the main street. This is actually better than staying even closer to the main street, because it is more peaceful and quiet at night!

A great location, close enough to the centre but far enough to enjoy the peace. Immaculate facilities with every thing you could think of, and a whole lot more you hadn’t thought of. This place is nestled within a community of home stays but Indika has gone the extra mile to give this place a unique, funky and tasteful style of its own. Has stocked fridge, great Wi-Fi and lots more, the breakfasts are big and very fresh, the rotis were the best we’d had in 3 weeks in SL, soft, light and airy, his lovely wife went out of her way to make us extra on request. Indika has the typical kind spirit of every Sri Lankan, he will help organise tours, transport, food or anything else you may need , but his prices are reasonable and he was quick to call out a tuk driver who he believed was overcharging. The driver he found for our onward travel was also fair( and a great driver), these guys are a new breed of young Sri Lankans who are bringing a degree of professionalism to the business. Give it a go, I promise you won’t be disappointed.

The host Indika and his family were so kind and made our stay comfortable and enjoyable! The room was clean and we loved every detail about it! The breakfast was made with Love and so tasty. Also Indika arranged tours and transportation for us and was really caring all of the time. Wonderful homestay! We loved the place and enjoyed every minute, even though we online had little time. The host and his family are super friendly, he even acted as a tour guide spontaneously and dropped us off at the must-sees of the area, as we were limited in time. Very central location. Great breakfast.

There is absolutely nothing to dislike

We booked 3 nights and stayed 5. Our host Indika is the kindest person we have met anywhere in the World and we have travelled a lot. He helped us so much over the 5 days and we are humbly grateful. On top of that the accommodation is spotlessly clean, so tastefully designed and located in the tree canopy a short walk from town but with the feeling of being completely immersed in nature. Breakfast on the terrace watching the birds and squirrels was always delicious and Indika organised everything for us. Symbol of Ella is a cut above anything else in Ella for so many reasons. It’s head and shoulders above anywhere we have stayed in Sr Lanka. It easily deserves 15/10 with absolutely nothing to complain about. If you’re looking for the perfect place with the most caring host then book early and make sure you bag this…………….it’s that special x

We had a wonderful stay in Ella, many thanks to Indika and his great family! The accommodation is very centrally located and the main street of Ella is just a short walk away. Indika is an excellent host. We rented a scooter through him and used it to explore Ella and the surrounding area. Indika also offered us a cab service. The accommodation was very clean, beautifully furnished and the breakfast was delicious. Before breakfast, he swept the terrace and lit incense sticks. At the end of our stay, Indika took us to the bus stop for our onward journey to Udawalawe. Because of the rain the air in the room is quite humid, this could be remedied with air conditioning. We would come back again and again and recommend the accommodation with a clear conscience.

Everything was really great!

Indika the owner was extremely attentive to details and went above and beyond for us. The location was great, the atmosphere was special, the bed was comfortable, the room spacious and the breakfast delicious! Be aware that this is a homestay so you will enter through the owner's home and it is a shared external space with the home and with neighbours. Even though we could hear the neighbours slightly it was truly a quiet, relaxing getaway in a really special place. We appreciated Indika's efforts to make us feel at home and to help us with whatever we needed. Definitely great value.

Indika is so helpful and kind! the room is beautiful, comfortable and very clean. we loved to stay at Indika‘s home! ella town is super close, 4-5 minutes in walking distance. we really recommend this place :) the wifi connection was good and fast. the breakfast was tasty and you can choose between different options.

Exceptional place and great value for money. Key highlights include: - Indika, our host, who has been incredible throughout the trip. This included maintaining the rooms throughout our stay as well as organising cars for us around the country and organising our safari day in Yala. Indika is an exceptional host and did an excellent job on our holiday. - the place is perfectly located, a short walk from the city centre. Room is spacious and Indika makes sure it is clean at all times. Bathroom is lovely. We had the Sri Lankan breakfast every day which was yummy and filling - being so close to the city centre meant it was very easy to organise activities and head out around ella in the day

This hotel/home stay is the best of Ella. First of all Indika and his family are the nicest people/family we met along the way. They are so welcoming and make sure that your stay is super comfortable. The room is so clean, good bed, and amazing shower. In the morning they serve an amazing breakfast. He also helped us with transport for the remaining days of holiday. I would come back for sure and recommend this place to friends.

Really nothing. A bit of a trek into town for the evening meal but owners happily arranged a tuk-tuk ride back. A better inside seating arrangement would be one suggestion.

Basically the hotel is a home stay with only one room to rent. Though home stay may have some negative connotations to some, the room is at one edge of the home and quite private. The room itself is full of special touches and is quite spacious with a wonderful balcony only comprised by the mosquitoes. The owners are extremely conscientious and hospitable. The breakfasts were incredible and our one dinner there equally enjoyi.

Very nice and very lovingly furnished accommodation. Only 5 minutes walk from town. Very nice terrace where great breakfast was served every morning. The cleanliness of this accommodation is to be emphasized, we have never experienced anything like it in Sri Lanka! We loved it! Very friendly and caring host. We didn't miss anything and wouldn't improve anything! Indika had very good tips for excursions, shops, etc. He also booked us a fantastic cooking class. He organized tuk tuks for us and the onward journey with a driver and all at fair prices! Thank you for everything Indika, we will be back and will definitely stay longer next time!!!

The room is beautiful, clean, comfortable and has an amazing balcony with a lovely garden where you can watch all the birds and animals running around the trees. Indika went above and beyond to help us navigate Ella. After our stay he helped organized transportation to the next city. The breakfast which was included in the price was amazing; smoothies, eggs, toast, fruits, pancakes, tea, or whatever you want. Honestly our best stay of the whole trip and would recommend anyone going to Ella to book with him.

There's nothing not to like.

Indy was such a lovely guy. Personal contact was great. Large breakfast, comfy beds and excellent shower. Right in nature, we even had monkeys passing by on our terrace. Pillows were great (underrated!) aswell! Homestay as you want it to be!
