Staff were friendly, room was comfortable and the food was good. Hard to go any further than this as we basically caught up on sleep after a long flight, and then moved on. For our purposes, it was ideal.

When nature meets tasteful architecture in one beautiful hotel. Villa Hundira is uniquely beautiful and calm and extremely comfortable. We only stayed one night but I wish we stayed longer. Our two bedroom villa was large and very comfortable and the people who worked there looked after us beautifully. There are several pools to use, which the kids loved.

Nothing. This place exceeded our expectations and has real character.

Beautiful hotel in the old colonial style, hosted by well organised staff with great attention to detail. The two pools are fantastic, the food was superb and the location is both picturesque and convenient for the airport. There is a delightful play hut for children with books and games, a large library and billiards room and a lovely treatment room. There are many different areas to relax in and the whole place has a very personal feel. The staff were discretely attentive and Jay in particular was excellent. He was unbelievably helpful and organised a boat trip on the lagoon to monkey island and assisted with our onward journey around Sri Lanka. We will definitely be back.

While the property was amazing, the beach wasn't easy to access. Which, big picture, didn't bother me. The beach itself was reasonably clean, but not great. It was good for a nice walk, but definitely not swimable due to the crazy, but mesmerizing surf.

I booked this property for my last day in Sri Lanka as it was close to the airport and the beach. I didn't expect it to be as amazing as it was and I'm not sure that I'll be able to adequately describe what a little paradise this property is. The property is built around a canal and multiple buildings with private rooms of all sizes, several pools, lounge and dining areas, billiards, reading room with tons of books in all languages to choose from, a couple of intimate bar areas and a breezy terrace that was comfortable even at the hottest times of the day. The canal had some kayaks available and there were also some bikes for the guests. Meal options were limited, but everything was delicious. My room was large and comfortable with a pool just outside the door. There is also a workshop onsite for local women to learn handicrafts in order to supplement their income. Some of the crafts were sold in a small shop next to the reception.

No other facilities in the local area, so you need to be happy to stay in (and pay higher prices for drinks especially, including water) or take a tuk tuk into Negombo. Prices in the menus are quoted in $ but then billed in SR Rupees - beware the exchange rate, as a $25 bottle of wine (they all were) actually was $27.50. Beers were $5 but delicious!! Servicing the room was haphazard - cleaned 1st day, but only 2 hand towels and 4 small bottles of water the second. Overall a beautiful stay but certainly quite expensive.

Beautiful oasis with fascinating layout and 2 lovely pools to relax by after or before a long flight. Jay, the manager, was charming and very helpful. Super- clean room . Handy for the airport. Smiley staff did their best to help you. Don’t miss an early morning trip to the wholesale fish market - tons (literally) of fish being sold for national & international markets. Lagoon boat tour with fruit picnic, feed the monkeys & tour Negombo’s waterfront was really enjoyable- $50 for the boat so more affordable for 4/6 and avoid Sundays when it is closed 😏( Christian community).

The food is okay but not wonderful. Because our stay was 5 days we found some alternative places to eat in Negombo where there is lots of choice.

Very beautiful small hotel. Lots of different cosy corners to sit. Decorated in tasteful Sri Lankan style. Large comfortable beds. Lovely friendly staff. Two very nice swimming pools. We had a fantastic stay here.

Beautiful piece of architecture where the tasteful interior decor beautifully blends with the environment. Staff go out of the way to make you comfortable and treated us very well. Food was very tasty. The owner couple supports the local community with a workshop attached which produces its own art & deco objects for sale.

Everything was perfect once we settled into the Lagoon Suite with views over the lagoon and expansive living area. Our host, Jay the resort manager was a terrific person who made sure everything went smoothly including a tour around the property where we met the owners Rolf and Indira and engaged in great conversation before being introduced to Thimble and meeting the craftswomen hard at work. The staff at the resort were wonderful and provided service second to none and really made us feel like family. The food was exceptional, so much so that we ended up eating all our meals from breakfast through dinner exclusively at the resort. The gin and tonics using local gin were terrific and the only regret is we completely forgot to try the local arrack despite promising to do so. Next time. There are various areas to have meals throughout the resort with the overall feeling of privacy coupled with openness. We typically ate breakfast facing the lagoon in the area below the room, and often dinner at tables closer to the pool - there was no shortage of choice depending on the mood and ambience needed. Food choices range from western to local, and all were true to expectations with the local cuisine being wonderfully authentic. On our final day we used the Spa for a 3 hour treatment followed up with local cuisines - what a wonderful experience and recommended as a 'must do' for anyone staying multiple days. As a memory of our stay we bought a wonderful wall tapestry designed and created by the artisans at Thimble and this will feature in a prominent position in our house in the future. Overall the most relaxing environment we stayed at in Sri Lanka for our final few days and we are already looking forward to returning. Recommendation for anyone interested is to stay at least 2 nights, slow down, relax, and enjoy the offerings.

Honestly there is nothing we didn’t like, we loved our stay!

I am so glad we chose to stay here, if you’re considering booking villa Hundira, don’t think, just do it! The hotel itself is exceptional, so much thought and care has gone into the property with so many little places to hang out and two beautiful swimming pools. But more than that the staff are wonderful, we felt so welcome and so at home. The villa also contributes to the local community and there is a group of ladies who create beautiful textiles on site, we bought some pieces as a reminder of our time here. We hope to return someday!

The noise of the Airplanes coming over. But this cannot be solved by the hotel. And having an hotel not too far from the airport is also a plus.
