Winwood was the perfect stop for us in Ella. Wonderful balcony overlooking the forest. Short walk into Ella town. And fantastic hosts. Very comfortable rooms with a focus on sustainability. Delicious traditional breakfast. I would highly recommend.

We enjoyed everything

Everything was perfect!!! The room was very clean, the sheets and the towels were clean( and this is a “hard to find” thing here! I have no words for the owners, very kind people! They helped us with medicine because we had some stomach problems.

Our stay at Winwood Ella was delightful. The owners, a lovely couple, were incredibly kind and attentive, making our experience truly wonderful. The breakfast served on our balcony overlooking the jungle was delicious and beautifully presented. We adored the charming rooms, especially the wooden decorations. The location is ideal, tucked away from the busy main road yet still within easy walking distance. We'll definitely return when we visit Ella again.

Our two-night stay at WINWOOD Ella was truly exceptional from start to finish. The host was incredibly welcoming, polite, and helpful, going above and beyond to ensure our comfort. Upon our departure, he even kindly offered to drop us off at the station, sparing us the hassle of navigating the streets with our luggage. The cleanliness and safety of the accommodation were top-notch, providing us with peace of mind throughout our stay. The location was unbeatable, just a short two-minute walk from the main street. The room was absolutely huge, offering plenty of space to relax and unwind. While there was no need for air conditioning during our stay in April, the room was equipped with a fan. The room itself was well-appointed with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. Overall, our experience at WINWOOD Ella was nothing short of fantastic, and we would not hesitate to stay there again in the future. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an affordable, welcoming and convenient place to stay!

Absolutely top-notch. Laal and his wife are the loveliest people you will ever meet, who run the best B&B there is. Literally everything exceeded our expectations. Amazing home cooked food, beautifully self built rooms, and the most informative tours to round it off. Count yourself lucky when you are able to get a room at their place.

Very minor points but there was no air con, just a fan but you really didn't need the A/C really as it got so cool and you were refreshed with the fan more than enough and would've been nice to have a fridge if possible but as they're run by solar power we understand why. Not criticisms. Very small details that would not put us off staying again. We will be back.

Laal and his wife Kumari couldn't do enough for us. The breakfast in the jungle was amazing and the room was excellent size, clean comfortable bed and amazing waterfall shower. Laal kindly sorted our laundry for us and went above and beyond the whole time we were there.

We loved everything about this stay. The hosts are incredible. We were lucky enough to be there over Sri Lankan New Year, and they welcomed us like family. The room and bathroom are spacious, spotlessly clean and modern. Although there is no air conditioning in the room, there is a fan which works very well, we were never too hot. The location is fantastic. A short walk to Ella Town, but it still feels tranquil and tucked away from the main strip. The room backs onto a green space, which is lovely to watch the monkeys, birds and squirrels in the morning. The breakfast was amazing. I am gluten-free and vegetarian, and they went above and beyond to cater for me. We got to try lots of local Sri Lankan dishes, all of which were delicious. I will miss their food! They gave us a lot of local knowledge and suggestions for our stay, helped us with getting our laundry done and provided tansport to Uduwalawa. Everything about this stay was perfect, and we were sad to leave.

Incredible property - no dislikes!

Fantastic and stunning stay! Best shower and breakfast in Sri Lanka! Hosts are absolutely wonderful. It is worth noting if you stay here (I've put in the positives, as they weren't negatives for us) 1) The hill to access the property is extremely steep. However, it can be accessed by car 2) The staircase to access the property is also very steep and narrow. We managed it with big backpacks .

Nothing for us. It’s up a pretty steep hill which was tough in a tuktuk and a good workout walking. Those with mobility issues might struggle here.

Cute little room, loved all the sustainable wood features. Owner very passionate and motivated, seemed like a great guy. Only two rooms, nice balcony overlooking the jungle. Great Sri Lankan breakfast served on the balcony. Only spent one night but would have stayed more if they weren’t booked. Highly recommended.

I loved everything at Winwood. The owners are welcoming and kind and it is like staying in a treehouse. The room had a wonderfull view of the jungle right outside side the balcony. Loved spending an afternoon after hiking just relaxing on balcony reading and watching the chipmunks running around

The room is great, the beds are super comfortable and Laal was super kind. He made an amazing breakfast and showed us how to make hoppers. We didn't need an ac, the temperature was perfect.

Beautiful accommodation, not quite in the centre of Ella but good location . Lots of wildlife , mongoose and lots of monkeys spotted plus numerous birds . Owner is a true gentleman.

Winwood Ella is a lovely little guest house. It has two rooms. We were lucky to have the big room with lots of space and a very nice outside balcony looking into the forest. You are high above busy Ella and are not disturbed by the noise of this buzzing little town. It is an quick walk down the hill and you are in the middle of the town or you can also walk along the railway tracks. Laal and his wife are the most welcoming and loveliest people. Communication with Laal was always easy and he managed to get us good train tickets for the Ella to Kandy train. We also chose to spend a day with Laal who guided us through the area to the tea plantation, Lipton Seat and Cave Temples. We also visited a tea factory. He is so knowledgable and wonderful. We are very happy that we took this guided tour as it gave us many insights and information that we could have never experienced on our own. Thank you again for your great hospitality:-)

wonderful place!!! wonderful owners, delicious breakfasts, we highly recommend booking a trip with the owner to the nearby attractions - unforgettable memories.
