Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

MexicoI chose the guesthouse based on the photo on Booking.com and was surprised that the room was very different. If you are at all disabled or older, you would need a taxi to get there and elsewhere.
The guesthouse is located on a hill overlooking the city a few minutes hike from the Aguila bus terminal. It is an easy walk to the local market (mercado) and the city center. If you want a feel for typical Mexican life, you will find it in this neighborhood. Ulises is an excellent host. My room was immaculate, the bed comfortable, and the sheets fresh and new. The bathroom is modern with tasteful pebble flooring, a clean bright white shower curtain, shiny new fixtures and a window. WiFi worked perfectly. There is an open screened community area with a view to the town to boil water, use the refrigerator, and wash dishes. The rooms are one level up a staircase. Ulises or his mother will kindly assist you with your luggage.

United StatesThe mattress was a little stiff and on one of the days the water was cut off.
The staff was very nice and it is in a convenient location for trying local food. It is also near a Walmart so you can buy whatever you might need for cheap.

United StatesWe don't speak Spanish and communicating was a challenge. A very basic room ( but clean), shared bathroom. We already knew about the morning serenade of roosters, that is a typical rural bonus.
Relatively close to the centre of the town.

AustraliaShowers weren't hot in one room and was a trickle but warm in the other room which wasn't practical. Could have used an extra blanket overnight. We only stayed one night and didn't tell the owners so they didn't have a chance to fix either of these while we were there.
Comfortable rooms, good temperature.

United StatesNothing the hotel could control but, the dogs barking outside were loud and didn't stop all night. This is common everywhere nearby. Same with the roosters lol. The communal kitchen had minimal options- one fork and spoon, 2 bowls, 2 plates, a microwave, fridge, and electric kettle. Better than nothing but not ideal if you're trying to cook for yourself. Staff was very nice but does not speak English FYI.
The view from the rooftop deck made everything worth it! Nothing fancy here as you get what you pay for. Basic needs were met. It's what you'd expect for this area in Mexico and for the low price. Beds were comfortable enough with 2 pillows each and wonderful soft, heavy blankets if needed. Facilities were very minimal and clean. WIFI was fast and dependable. Shower was warm (not hot but not cold). Towels were provided. Location was fantastic with the art walk only a 5-10 min walk away! Also, Walmart is a 5 min walk and Playa Hotelera (not ideal for swimming) a 1.5 mile walk away. Uber is easy and cheap to use also, though shuttle service from hotel is available to and from airport if needed.

MexicoThe person that welcome us just received the money and point at the room, make sure bills has nothing written or won't be accepted, the shared kitchen need to be cleaned because I saw a taco at the table for two days in a row that I have to throw it away once I knew nobody will claim it 😬 the last day I have to ask for toilet paper due there was no more even though they clean everyday and should notice, I think the last day on my way out the person that I pay on my first day was outside and don't even care to say anything just a simple goodbye maybe I'm asking for to much but that's something you expect everywhere you go because that will made you go back
The place was quiet and there was plenty of room but of course you have to pay extra, is close to the highway and there are supermarkets around

CanadaLow water pressure in the shower, the advertised Netflix on the tv didn't work because it was not connected to the internet. It's on a very steep hill to walk up and we were told by a local friend not to walk in the area at night. Worst of all though was that only one thin blanket was provided, not even a top sheet and it was uncomfortablely cold at night.
The younger lady was nice, the older one not so much. The room was clean and comfortable enough. Water was hot in the shower. Wifi was decent.

CanadaWe stayed in their colder season in mid January so my negative may not be for all year round. - Our room on ground floor was a bit cold and felt a bit damp even when the sun come through. I did not include it as part of my review score. * Was confused of the sink in the room as it does not work, but its nice and shiny (lol)
- Isamell (sorry if misspelled) is very nice and good communication which made for easy check in / out and a nice stay. We added one more night to our 2 night stay. - Excellent wifi - Excellent hot shower with great water pressure. - Spacious room and sleeps up to 3 guests. - Shared kitchen is ok with a fridge, teapot and microwave, but no hot plate. I was informed that it is a newly added feature included in the booking. It's a slow process with lots of potential. - Good location and walking distance to city centre and bus terminal. - Rooftop has great view being located at one of the higher points of San Jose. **For those who write bad reviews for mainly location, you should stop. Do your research where your going. Don't stay there and go stay in a hotel. And for hearing dogs and roosters all hours...seriously, your going to get that everywhere day and night. This country is full of dog and roosters. ** You should stop writing bad reviews for the closest walk from the bus terminal, there is always another route. It's not the fault of the owner and is not part of the stay itself. It's a feature that you should only comment on.
