There was no A/C, which might be a problem in the warmer months. We were there in December, so it was fine, but I don't think I would stay there in April or May.

The location was fantastic--right in the middle of everything!

A dumpster smelling from the street by our room

The style and colonial charm of the building. The courtyard dining area. And the most helpful, kind and generous staff.

Beds were not comfortable. The noise in the central square carried into the rooms even with the doors shut.chainsaws began trimming work on trees at7am two mornings in a row. If staff had been notified they could have put us in a quieter room

Rooms need a bit of maintenance. Every day the bed had new wood-pulp on it fallen from the wooden ceiling beams. Big trash container below balcony. Hotel can't help that of course but good to be aware if you book the 3P room. Garbage is collected early by noisy truck.

The bed was comfortable. Very central location. Helpful and very friendly staff. Spacious room with a high ceiling. Good and silent fan in the right place.

… on the other hand…being virtually right on the Zócalo… the music and noise is never ending and into the night

The place is very old world and charming. in one hand, it couldn’t be more central a location…

The main entrance side of the building is lined with tents of crafts market with it’s noise and additional crowds, as well as extra noise in the evening from musicians, clowns and singers (2-3 same time close to hotel). At the moment the Square is undergoing come construction works), so day time construction related noise too (April 2023). Some mosquitoes at night as the only way to get some cooler air at night is to open balcony doors, no mosquitoes nets or curtains. The hotel closes the doors till 6 a.m. If you have an early plane to catch make sure you arranged the doors being opened for you on a certain day ahead of time.

The Hotel itself is a beautiful historic building. We had a room with s balcony right over the entrance and facing the square. There is no AC, the ventilator mounted on the wall does it’s job. Very clean. Friendly stuff and owner. Many don’t speak English. Wi-Fi is good.

This didn't bother me, but I mention it so that other travelers won't be disappointed. This isn't a modern "updated" hotel, I loved the history of the building, but there are aspects that are kind of worn and out of date by modern cosmopolitan standards. If you're looking for a super new American style luxury experience this place isn't for you. That being said, it's clean, friendly, in a great spot, and very reasonably priced.

I had a very nice stay at Hotel Monte Alban. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and very patient with my poor and limited Spanish. The room was clean and comfortable, and they included nice touches like a tidy every day which included two bottles of water and some locally made chocolates. The building itself was exactly what I was hoping for, a big stately colonial style mansion with a beautiful central courtyard and a balcony overlooking the square. I couldn't hope for a better location, very close to the zocalo and within walking distance of most attractions.

Although this place was advertised on Booking dot com, most of the clientele seem to be Spanish speakers. Advertised as a tourist hotel, it would be nice if someone spoke a little English but fine... it's Mexico. What they could do, however, is provide information. Most hotels provide a printed copy of restaurant hours and scheduled activities. Even in Spanish, I could understand. Friday evening around 10:30, the restaurant suddenly filled with people and there was a band. Another day, I walked in and found a dance class in progress; then, one morning I went down for breakfast and saw (& heard) a man breaking up the kitchen floor with a sledge hammer. Payment was another issue. When I checked out, they presented a receipt for the charge to my credit card. It was much more than I'd agreed to, but fortunately I had a print-out from Booking dot com with the correct charges. The woman at the desk seemed surprised, but eventually she refunded the overcharge - in Mexican pesos! Not useful when I was on my way to the airport. It was far more than I wanted to spend at the duty free shops and now I'll have to exchange the pesos for Canadian dollars, which means losing money in the transaction. Also, as mentioned by another reviewer, the square can be very noisy in the evening, but it doesn't last much past 11:30 p.m.

Hotel Monte Alban is an 18th century building with quite a bit of the original wall painting intact and interesting nooks and crannies. Crookedly hung, and sometimes damaged, pictures are on the walls. There's plenty of atmosphere and an excellent view of the square. The location is central to markets in the south and renovated, tourist attractions to the north.

The almost constant (until 11 pm) music at the square or nearby was quite loud. i wish the room had a fridge and some facilities to make coffee/tea.

The room was spacious with a balcony overlooking the very active square. Friendly staff.

There is nothing the hotel could do better.

The breakfast was very good and plentiful. The Wifi was sometimes a bit difficult only because of our room being the furthest one .However, I would simply sit in the hallway for perfect reception. There was always someone at the desk to answer and help. I especially enjoyed my chats with the hotel owner, a delightful host.

not related to the property but the location.. as it is located at the heart of city, and it was the days around the day of the death celebrations, there were a lot of activities with loud music and noises. we did not mind as it was to be expected but good yo know if you are planning your holidays around national holidays/festivities

While I like the location, the fact that I had to walk through a block of vendors’ stalls who kept trying to sell me low quality “artisan” stuff in order to enter the hotel was annoying. While this is nothing the hotel can do anything about, I won’t stay there again for that reason. The food in the hotel restaurant was bland and mediocre.

friendly helpful staff; very clean; very safe; nice courtyard; nice selection of artwork

Old colonial era building that made me feel like I traveled back in time. We sent hours with the owner and she as great!!! There was no detail she missed. The staff were courteous, efficient and friendly. The location is excellent and walking distance to the central market, historical sites and shopping.
