Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

New ZealandThe room was very tired and dark. The bathroom had mismatched toilet seat, and the shower was over a huge bath, which was tricky to step into (if you're older like we were). The rooms were not soundproof and I could hear toilet noises from the other rooms.
Location and staff were great. Reasonable sized room.

New ZealandIf they are going to accommodate emergency housing, they should not advertise to travellers as a hotel. They should advertise that they are an emergency housing complex. They surprised us with having to pay a $100 deposit upon check in, this was not fair and not on the website details when booking. They need to make this clear! Bathroom did not have a hand basin, this was in the kitchenette and used as the kitchen sink too, YUCK! The King bed was 2x singles put together, with a noticeable ridge down the middle. One side was slightly higher and a flat mattress, the other was lower with a noticeable dent/dip in the mattress. I woke the next day with intense back pain the next morning! It is an emergency housing motel! Residents were smoking drugs, playing music, cars coming and going all hours, noisey throughout the night, thin walls, finally managed to fall asleep around 2am and a domestic violence incident with yelling and swearing early morning. IT SHOULD BE KEPT AS A HOUSING COMPLEX ONLY... Hubby and I were hoping for a nice quiet weekend away. We did not get this. Very disappointed. They purposely withhold information to get bookings, especially about emergency housing and deposit. NOT COOL! Unknowing travellers should know this and be fully informed.
I wanted to leave almost immediately after entering the room. Didn't think they would give a refund. Just thankful we had a warm place to sleep for.the night.

New ZealandThe room was very basic, no table or chairs. Sliding door got stuck on the window. The hotel is being used as emergency accommodation and the conversations/yelling was not nice when we arrived. We asked for another room but none were available.

New ZealandFirst warning sign was when a colleague dropped me off and asked if I was sure I had the right place!. Checked into room - there was a large amount of yelling, fighting and screaming from the other guests on the property (I have been told since that this Hotel is used for social housing) and then the police arrived. Felt extremely unsafe. Rang another property to see if they had any rooms available and left. Stayed 1 hour. Was advised that I would not get any money back (booked for 2 nights). Felt too relieved to get out of there to care at that moment..
Room was fine

New ZealandThat this was an emergency housing complex and we were not advised of this at check in. We had to endure a patched gang member staying opposite our room try to stare and intimidate us. Although this didn't worry us it still doesn't sit well. We also had first row view to many questionable visitors at the property
The staff were easy enough to deal with. I felt they tried to rush us through to our rooms in arrivals when I started asking questions about the possibility of changing rooms

New ZealandThe door to the unit that wouldn't open, it was jambed, even the staff couldn't open it. The key that we were given to that door didn't work. The treads on the stairway that was the accessway to the room were loose and unsafe. The stairway is incredibly steep and would not meet the current building code. The cracked sink bowl that was clearly unhygenic. The room smelt stale. The smell of drugs being smoked nearby. Unrepaired paintwork and flooring.
