How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Rooms close to Riccarton Road are very noisy. Beds were comfy but room wasnt that clean.

The chairs in the room were not overly comfortable and the parking was a bit tricky.
The staff were friendly, the rooms were clean and tidy and they were able to accommodate us for an extra few days at short notice which was amazing.

1. The advertised Check-In time was displayed as 10pm, I'm glad I made contact around 7pm to advise we won't be there until around 9pm as we received a response that the reception is closed from 6:30pm. However they advised the room number and that they left the room open with the key there. I wonder if I would have been told of this had I not got in touch? I would have expected reception to be available up until the advertised Check-In time or at least been provided the service of letting us know otherwise. 2. The tv remote barely worked - I gave up frustrated with it, likely needed replacement batteries but I see they don't want guests tampering with that as the battery compartment on the back is taped up.
Bed was comfortable, I don't sleep well in a lot of accommodation beds, but I slept well in this one. Room was of decent size so plenty of space and additional heating in the cupboard is very proactive as the wall heater really is not enough for the space. Location is fine, not too central but, the convenient bus route right outside makes up for that.

The facilities were suitable for what we needed but there were a number of things in the room that were missing or needed a little TLC . Bathroom had been renovated but the main light bulb was blown, only one flannel provided despite 2 occupants and no bin by the toilet for rubbish. The kitchen Bench had a damaged counter top and the kitchen tidy bin lid was broken so wouldn't close. Beds had mattress protectors but these had stains. Couch had marks/stains Room was non smoking but past guests had left cigarette butts outside on walkway to the room which hasn't been picked up. Compendium was empty....no information.
Location is great. -walking distance to Riccarton mall, the CBD through Hagley park, restaurants and cafes etc. Appreciate that the staff let us leave our bags at reception while we ventured out as our arrival and departure at the airport was outside check-in and check-out times. The facilities were suitable for what we needed but there were a number of things in the room that were missing or needed a little TLC

Occasionally there was a strong smell coming from the shower drain, however simply turning on the ventilation soon got rid of it
The Bed was comfy, the room had a fairly large TV and the shower was very nice. It also had a nice (but small) table for me to work on while i was there

The pictures weren’t the same as the bedroom, and we only got 2 towels instead of 3, and the other people staying were rude to us.

The room was very hot (it was a super hot day) but it stayed very warm at night. They did supply a fan which was great but just something to consider in the summer if bringing a fluffy dog.
Convenient location. Easy parking. Everything you need for an overnight stay with your dog.

Shower was amazing but the water did not drain well
