Our room was above the TV room. A group was playing some sort of noisy game on it till about midnight. Hot water ran out in the kitchen. When I told the person on reception, he stated that people are always turning it off thinking it was a switch for the stove. Nothing was done about putting a sign up to stop it happening again, which did happen two days later . Washing dishes in a hostel with cold water is less than ideal.

The bit of noise coming from the common areas, but not until late. Site rules were followed by other guests. Just that it was quite noticable during allowed times for this.

Everything was super clean and check-in after hours was super easy to complete. The proximity to the center of Paihia was super convenient, less than 10 minutes walking.

Saturday night was very noisy with drunken chatting in the courtyard and inconsiderate people having a “domestic” at 3am.

Bathroom was unnecessarily mouldy and in need of an upgrade. Woke up to water coming through the light fitting in the bathroom.

Location, parking and cooking facilities/ communal spaces were great.

The drain in the bathroom smelt of sewage and the shower was blocked. Contrary to other reviews, there is no free kayak hire and no free tea and coffee. A lot of the frying pans in the kitchen were very dirty. There is also an onsite smoking area so it stinks for people in the rooms near there and at the outdoor dining area (maybe ban smoking onsite). It is a shame staff were not very present and didn’t seem to be too knowledgeable about the area.

There was no common items in the kitchen like I’ve found at other hostels like salt.

The rooms were very comfortable with lockable storage under beds, the bathrooms were kept clean and so was the kitchen. There were comfortable inside and outside spaces. It was also less than a 2 minute walk to the beach.

The refrigerator was full so I marked my items with my name and room number and kept them in the free shelf. Still it was gone by the evening. More refrigerator space is needed or limit the use of space per person or room.

The wifi was bad. With a poor 4G connection, communication or watching a movie was poor or nil.

The noise from the communal bathroom next to my room, with people using toilets, handbasins & particularly noisy electric hand dryers all night. It was impossible to get a decent night's sleep, even using earplugs.
