Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomBit of a weird one, the aim seems to be that you pay for the room, rock up, stay and leave without meeting any staff. I didn’t see anyone who admitted to being connected with the management or saw any evidence of room servicing. I did meet an interesting character hanging around when I recced the place in the morning of check in. This model might work well for New Zealanders but has a couple of issues if you are traveling from abroad without good communications: a roaming phone with data. I was saved by the local library computer access. Issues: 1. The room is accessed by a coded lock on the door, the front door is always open, if you have the code you can get in, if not you can’t. The owner sends you the code by email the day before you arrive even though you have already paid. The character above told me of a woman who had lost her code and couldn’t get in for hours. I had been traveling for days and had no code, forewarned with no phone I headed off to the library (Past shops) to spend an hour or so getting a code by emailing the owner on a new email address, he was quick to respond, seems to monitor email closely. Apparently there is WiFi but you need the code which did not help. Note: make sure you have a copy of your booking and any messages on paper and a thumb drive/memory card, set up data roaming or get a local data SIM @ $20, on your phone. 2. I booked through Booking.com at a price: pay owner, the owner then sends an invoice to be paid through PayPal with a PP fee added within 12 hours, as far as I could see there is no way to pay this without the fee which I would not have paid, if the vendor chooses a payment method he pays the cost, unfortunately there were only limited options for booking accommodation at the time and I was on a tight schedule to travel next day. If you are happy to pay the fee not an issue, if not you might want to avoid this property on principle or if the price is marginal.
The room with toilet it was modern, clean with two firm comfortable single beds as booked. I don’t recall any kettle etc. bulk toiletries were provided in separate common shower/laundry room, plenty of hot water. I could not decide whether or not the washing machine was for use by guests, one sign said not another implied yes, I guess there was no one to stop you if you wanted to use it. Although nearish to the airport, walkable but easier by bus: Remarkables Shopping Centre #1 (Less frequent #3 has bus stop just across the road) - ‘Bee’ card & top up from news agent at airport, also needed for Queenstown bus #1, is quiet, I don’t recall hearing any plane. Shops (New World) are close by: 5 mins, lakeside walk into Queenstown: 8Km also nearby, close by bus to airport, walking path to/in Remarkables via golf course (Don’t know if public) also near. If you need to be in Frankton, a pleasant place to stay.

AustraliaAs its a cold place, just a kettle in the room or even a small kitchen facility to get some hot water would've been perfect.
It was clean and as per the description, hence no issues there.

New ZealandThe lovely house has been converted into a 7-room accommodation ran by somebody clearly on the other side of the planet (or someone who really hates socialising) as it’s all managed online. Whoever cleans does a very slapdash job as there was a dead bugs left on the ceiling of our room, the upstairs toilet was caked in limescale and seems to have NEVER been cleaned with a toilet brush. Also the flush button was broken. The shower had loads of other people’s own cleaning products and loofas in there and had a tendency to flood, and there are no fire doors anywhere. The front door isn’t locked and has no passcode which means anybody could come into the building. There was a very very old carton of milk left out the front which had clearly been there for weeks as the solids had entirely separated from the liquid. Overall, cleanliness was entirely sloppy and clearly not cared for which is a shame to see in what could potentially be a very very lovely home. It’s actually a shame to see such a lovely home being used this way and not even kept in good repair.
It’s nice to have a self check-in and the house is a lovely location with a room that had a lovely view. Comfortable bed. Nice to have a room code so no keys can be lost. Amenities are close by.

NetherlandsMain front door was left open (unlocked) all day, all night. It was ok, I didn't mind when other travellers were in property but I felt unsafe when I appeared to be the only person on the property my last night. Felt super unsafe. No staff on property also. Also, I met another traveller who didn't get her room pin and was locked out for a long time from her room. We tried calling the phone number and no response.
Bed super comfy. Room v big. View nice.

New ZealandI had to readjust my expectation after I arrived. From my room, entry was from outside so if it is raining you need a coat to go inside but frankly having the private bathroom / shower made up for that. Kitchen access was not provided on the email, and there is no kitchenette in the room, no storeage space in the room, other than dumping stuff on the single bed, which is fine for a couple who already imtimately share a space but if I traveled as intended with a friend it may have felt tight. I thought the price was a bit high but then if I had traveled with someone to split that cost it would have been reasonable.
The room I had, had a double bed and a single bed, and a private bathroom (which I highly recommend as many of the other rooms had a single bathroom to share) the beds were very comfortable and the room provided 6 pillows that were also very good (too many places provide too few pillows that aren't very good but I did not need to bring my own pillow to have a great night sleep) . The room also had a samll television but unfortunately was at the opposite end of the house to the Wi-Fi so I couldn't have watched anything on it unless I connected to my own data. I hope they install a Wi-Fi range extender to resolve this problem. I traveled alone so the cost of the room was quite high but the space was a good size (for a sinlge person). If I had traveled with a friend as originally intended, that cost would have been reduced but the space would have felt uncomfortable tight due to having nowhere to store anything. I have been in smaller rooms that had a place to put bags making the space manageable but I think it is a room for a couple who are already very intimate with their space. Kitchen/lounge required a keycode entry which wasn't provided in the email but was given to me by another guest, and was a relatively nice space. Kitchen had a fridge, a sink, and a microwave. It suited my needs but if you're someone who wants to cook your meals there was no facility to do so (at the time of writing). Location in Frankton was great. Around the corner from the airport, event centre, or hospital. I found ample, easy parking on the street outside the unit, there was also an off street parking spot there as well but it was not used during my stay due to the aforementioned availability of parking. The view was stunning to wake up to. During summer (January) the room was comfortably warm but not sure how it would be in winter. Queenstown, for me was a 10-15 minute drive away - experiences may vary.

New ZealandSparsely furnished, property garden uncared for, looks like a renovation project is in progress. Smell of chemical air fresheners in the room is not pleasant. Absolutely no kitchen amenity at all - to be fair they do say that on their advertising, but there is no table/chair in room, so if you bring back food to eat, you have to sit on the bed, and have your own cutlery. The big window in the bedroom needs another privacy curtain or Venetian blind, so you can have the big heavy curtains open without being highly visible from the street and the neighbouring properties. No signage outside property to say it is the place you have booked. Entrance way feels like a not very welcoming boarding house.
Very clean, comfortable bed, quiet, close to airport. Wonderful view of Remarkables right outside your window.

New ZealandThe absence of any thing other than the most basic utilities. We were aware of the lack of any food or drink facilities and came prepared. There were two beds in the room with barely enough room to get around them. No heating, fine in summer but would be an issue in winter.
Handy to Frankton, quiet area, comfortable bed and very good shower.
