Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNot much. There was a smell of cooking emanating from a nearby restaurant chimney a couple of times but no other problems whatsoever.
Well positioned, with excellent parking facilities. A calm oasis in the midst of a very busy city. The staff were diligent, welcoming ,attentive and delightful.

United StatesThe place was a little hard to find and it would help if hotel were to give very specific instructions as to where Uber should drop off visitors and that there is short walk to the front door of the hotel, and that walk is up a slight hill. I didn't want to let the Uber driver leave until I was sure of where the hotel was located. A little confusing at first.
Great room with wonderful, comfortable bed. Enough space for luggage and having a suite was extra nice. Bathroom and shower excellent. Good location in the city. Breakfast area and common areas were lovely. I especially love the art throughout the hotel. Many thanks for a very pleasant stay.

United StatesNo complaints!
A special location in the heart of the city. It is secluded behind a locked gate...very private and serene atmosphere. The staff was wonderful and breakfast was served in a beautiful room. Our room (The Cottage) was large and private and had it's own jacuzzi (we were not expecting this). Lovely stay and restaurants were in very close walking distance.

United StatesThe staff was very friendly and helpful answering questions before and during our stay. The grounds are gorgeous and the suite was exceptional with little touches of decor, a welcome bottle of wine, and homemade cake in the lounge. The pool is a beautiful and calm space. The room is quiet and hidden from the street, but centrally located. The breakfast was exceptional. This was our favorite place we stayed during our trip and would not hesitate to return.

United StatesCasa Balthazar is a great boutique hotel. My husband and I stayed here several days for our first time in Lisbon. The location is great for sightseeing. It’s about halfway up between the Baixa and Bairro Alta, making it a good starting point to see sights in either neighborhood. It’s also close to public transportation. We used Uber quite a bit while in Lisbon, as well. The only downside to the location is that Ubers can’t turn down the narrow street, so they will drop off and pick up at the end of the street. It’s not a big deal as long as you don’t have mobility issues (and if you do, Lisbon is going to be difficult on the whole). We stayed in the Jacuzzi 1 room, and would highly recommend it. The room itself is comfortable and cozy. It has a small kitchenette and a bidet in the bathroom. The shower is very large and the water pressure is good. The real draw, though, is the private terrace and jacuzzi. You can’t beat the panoramic views over the city and out to the castle. I loved relaxing in the jacuzzi after long days of walking up and down the hills of Lisbon. The weather wasn’t great in Lisbon when we visited in late February, but even then, we got good use out of the terrace when it wasn’t raining. Finally, the staff at the hotel really went above and beyond on service. We messaged them in advance to let them know that we are vegan and asking if they could accommodate that at breakfast. I would have been fine if they said no, in which case we would have gone out for breakfast instead. But they were very responsive and provided a great breakfast every morning, including vegan yogurt, fruit, bread, and vegan meats and cheeses. It was nice that we were able to have something similar to what the “regular” breakfast was and didn’t feel left out! They also made coffee with soy milk, which was delicious and strong (necessary to have the energy for sightseeing).

United StatesThe rooms were a little dated. The bathrooms, while big, are older and the shower didn't drain quite properly and the towel warmers didn't work. It was still a very spacious bathroom.
The location is very central to many things but still feels extremely private. The room was very large and comfortable. The staff was helpful and attentive and the continental breakfast was good.
