Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Great location in a very cool castle town. The room was clean and comfortable and our host was wonderful. Very warm and friendly. And they prepared a wonderful breakfast. There was a terrace we could use with a beautiful view. We loved Marvao and we would stay at Casa da Arvore again.

United StatesWe were given a warm welcome by our very friendly and pleasant host, who showed us into our lovely spacious room with a balcony overlooking the valley far below. There is a cosy shared sitting room ( complimentary port on hand) and the most spectacular views from the large windows of the sitting and dining areas. We loved the old fashioned ambience of the historic house, which was ideally located for a walking tour of the hilltop village. Delicious breakfast too.

CanadaThere really weren't any negatives.
Of all of our stays in Portugal, this was the most welcoming. The host truly made us feel at home. The breakfasts was excellent and served in a dining room with a lovely view. The location was magical, right on the top edge of town with views over the valley and sunset and a quick walk to the castle. As some of the other reviews mention, google maps is very confused about Marvao. Just follow the main road through the gate and then follow the inside of the wall up to Casa da Avore. There is ample parking right next to the hotel.

United StatesIt's a long and winding road up to Marvao, and the streets within the village are very narrow. I would encourage travelers to arrive before dark.
A beautiful little cottage tucked away in the medieval village of Marvao. There's a castle right next door and the village itself is fun to wander around in. The owner of the hotel was friendly and gracious, and the room was perfect. It felt like I was staying in a distant relative's home and not a hotel. Also, the breakfast was incredible. Definitely sign up for breakfast.

New ZealandNothing really! We thought it was good value for money and had character. It wasn’t five star accommodation but that’s not what we wanted or expected! It was comfy and homely.
We liked that our host was so friendly and that if he didn’t understand everything we said in English he would use his app on his phone to have a chat with us! He was very accommodating in every way and we even had a wee port on arrival and tea or coffee whenever we wanted it. There was a lounge area we could use and the views were incredible. Marvao is a gorgeous village and this property was extremely well situated near the ruined castle and tiny museum, both of which were well worth exploring. There was a nice homely cafe just metres away. Parking was also easy and just outside the door. Our host was kind enough to help with our luggage.

CanadaWe loved everything, even the celebration that was taking place just outside our balcony. The locals were celebrating Al Mossassa.
Fabulous location overlooking the landscape and other towns. Best place to see the sunset, with a glass of port wine provided by the hosts. Breakfast was exceptional with very tasty and moist homemade chocolate cake and tomato jam. The host and hostess were very friendly and personable and made us feel like we were part of the family.

United KingdomIt would be very difficult to find anything to dislike.
This small hotel is absolutely excellent. We chose a room on the first floor which had double doors opening out on to a minute balcony which gave a view, basically on to the attractive car park below. However the first floor lounge and dining areas had fantastic views and there was a good sized balcony running along outside which gave tremendous views of the valley and countryside below. We were also treated to golden eagles periodically flying past. The owner and his wife were very attentive and did everything they could to ensure your stay was excellent. Breakfast was pre-ordered and there was a very good range on offer. We have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.
