Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaI liked everything.
Everything was splendid, as I noted when I first time I filled out this survey. The staff were wonderful, the hotel is beautiful, with many charming and spacious public rooms in which to read, work, talk with friends, or just relax with the Port, which is offered free. The atmosphere, with books and paintings and welcoming couches makes this place a refuge. The garden is an even more tempting oasis, with a fountain and a pool and lemon trees under which to eat breakfast. The free breakfasts are lavish - by far the best of any hotel in Europe that we stayed in. Delicious Frittata, fresh homemade cakes, tender croissants and fresh baked breads. Fruit, yoghurt, cereals, hams, cheeses, of the best quality. The hotel is like a fine country Auberge in the heart of Lisbon's nicest area - Chiado. Outside, swallows swerve against an 18th century skyline of curving rooftops and a church weathervane, with a glimpse of the river at the end of the street. The location is perfect: next to churches, galleries, the Time Out Market, bookshops, and great restaurants and tavernas. On some nights, you can hear distant Fado and folk music from the public square two blocks away. The area is safe and yet lively. Joanna and her staff are incredibly helpful and efficient. Everything in the hotel is clean and carefully thought through for the comfort of guests; you feel cherished. They will even do laundry. I would never stay anywhere else in Lisbon, now that I know about the Casa do Barao.

CanadaEverything was splendid!
Casa do Baroa is an oasis in Chiado, a perfect neighbourhood for visitors. Casa do Barao is beautiful, peaceful, with a lovely garden including a pool and a fountain, where one eats a delicious and lavish breakfast under a lemon tree. The wonderful home-made cakes and port are available at all hours, and the hotel offers many public rooms in which to read, write, or talk with friends. It is like having a room, a living room, a parlour, and a garden all at once. The staff are marvellous: friendly, efficient, kind, helpful. They will do laundry or call you a taxi. The rooms are spacious and elegant. The hotel is truly worthy of admiration. I would recommend it to anyone coming to Lisbon.

United KingdomThis is the only fault we found, everything else was amazing, was the shower head only had a holder fixed to the wall at hip/waste height and the rainfall shower head was very weak, so weak you would not be able to rinse shampoo/conditioner out of your hair so this meant you had to hold the shower head with one had as you showered.
The location, breakfast and service was fabulous, such a beautiful boutique hotel. Super friendly staff who provided a really warm welcome, nothing seemed like it would be too much trouble. Really relaxed vibe around the place with the nicest almost hidden away oasis garden. So happy we stayed here!

United KingdomWe had a fantastic stay at Casa do Barao. The room was very clean and comfortable, and stylishly decorated. The hotel is in a gorgeous building, with so many interesting pieces of art and furniture. It was lovely enjoying an excellent fresh breakfast outside in the pretty garden. The complimentary port and cakes are a really nice touch. On top of all of this were the amazing hotel owners and staff, they are so friendly and go above and beyond to ensure everyone has a wonderful stay. The hotel is also in a great location for exploring Lisbon. It's in the heart of the old town and close to many of the attractions and transport links. We would highly recommend a stay at Casa do Barao!

United KingdomJoana, Madalena, housekeeping and breakfast staff are just lovely people. Joana & Madalena are the perfect hosts! The staff are welcoming, friendly and very hospitable. The location is just absolutely perfect; it just can’t be faulted. The breakfast is delicious, and fresh. Especially the whole meal bread loaf and sublime Portuguese coconut cake. Freshly baked cake, hot drinks, and white and red port are provided throughout the day. I treated myself and upgraded my room, a few days before flying out. The room was amazing, with a great balcony and view to the harbour. The room is super comfortable and relaxing. I slept like a log! The Casa, has plenty of charm, and felt very secure. I’m in no doubt that this is where I’d like to stay again during my next visit.
