How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

There's few good restaurant options nearby, but an easy fix if you are by car.
The staff was very friendly and accomodating! Everything was very clean.

The only thing we’d change is having the pool heated, it would have been so lovely to enjoy it. Also more clarity about where to park (although the staff was very helpful when we asked - even walked us to the place where she parks!).
Everything was clean and beautiful! We loved the bedroom, bathroom, and breakfasts, and found it to be relaxing and private. The location was also excellent, within a short walk to restaurants, a market, the shore, the ferry.

One thing that may be improved is a bit better soundproofing, specially the room's doors, to reduce the noise coming from the hall and other guests in the morning.
The property is very well taken care of, looks new and is very clean. Breakfasts are delicious and cater different diets. People working at the property are also super kind. Check-in and out was super easy and flexible.

The room was very comfortable. We had everything we needed. The bed and room were amazing. The breakfast was also really good. The crew was very friendly and helpful. The pool was really nice. I would really recommend to go to this place as you won't find anything better for this price.

From July 28th to August 1st, we had the absolute pleasure of staying at the Olive Boutique Guest House. Right from the outset, our experience was smooth and hassle-free. A unique check-in process welcomed us: a door code sent in advance, which seamlessly transitioned to a door card awaiting us in our apartment. Susana, our primary point of contact through booking.com, was a gem. From facilitating an early check-in to providing consistent support, her assistance was invaluable. The entire staff, from those at the breakfast buffet to the cleaning crew, exuded warmth, professionalism, and attention to detail. Speaking of the rooms, they're the epitome of comfort and style. The decor speaks volumes about the attention paid to design and guest comfort. Every day we returned to a space that felt fresh and well-tended to, and the complimentary bottle of water upon arrival was a nice touch. A highlight for us was the immaculate pool and the substantial breakfast area. While the guest house doesn't serve lunch, they thoughtfully offer a picnic option. For dining out, we found numerous options in the vicinity, with "Mercado da Vila" and "Atlantico Azorean" being our top picks. Located in Vila Franca do Campo, the Olive Boutique Guest House offers a strategic location. A mere 20 minutes from Ponta Delgada and 40 minutes to the island's opposite end, it's nestled in an authentic fisher town brimming with local cafes, activities, and a beach. In retrospect, I'd choose this over Ponta Delgada a hundred times. If there's one thing that truly set this place apart, it was the myriad special touches: the choice of furniture, the seamless online communication, staff kindness, impeccable decor, and relentless cleanliness. To anyone considering a trip to Sao Miguel, Azores, I cannot recommend the Olive Boutique Guest House enough. Of all the places we stayed during our Azorean adventure, this stood out as our favorite.

The room was great, really nice size and the walk in shower was huge! The breakfast served each morning was lovely and the staff are very kind and welcoming. There was a lovely lady in particular who offered to make scrambled eggs for each guest every morning. The shared pool is a good size with lots of sun loungers and is generally quite quiet. The town is a great place to be based as it's around a 30 minute drive to most of the must see places in Sao Miguel but has a nice small town feel. A lovely place to stay!
