Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomThe Hostel was characterless and soulless. The rooms were bare, pictures on the walls would have helped. Although we knew the kitchen was unavailable, we were not even allowed to borrow plates or cups More flexibility is required. The location is on edge of town, which was not helpful given lack of facilities.
Breakfast was reasonable.

CanadaThe wifi is not good at all. It smells really bad in the room and in the hallways of the hotel. In the bathroom, there's so much humidity that the towel won't dry within a day. It's impossible to let dry your beach towel and swimsuit.
The breakfast was good. The staff was nice! It's a cheap option (good price). People are quiet.

NetherlandsThe rooms had no lockers, which I don't like when I stay in hostels. And the bathroom doesn't have very good ventilation so it stayed wet and foggy in there for a long time.
It looks sketchy, but it turned out fine. Overall everything was just fine; the rooms, the beds, the shower, the breakfast etc. I must say I was in a 4 person dorm on my own which did make my stay very pleasant. Sometimes the room was too small for just me so I cant imagine staying with 4. Large parking and okay location, do need to hike up a little but hey its Sao Jorge, what do you expext. Also the staff was just very nice, any questions you could ask them and they were very helpfull.

United KingdomIt was extremely basic with no facilities (no fridge, kettle etc). Wifi was almost non existent. It was only near the reception and it could not cope with the number of users. Even when connected it was very slow. There were annoying cows outside with bells attached and it disrupted our sleep.
Clean, breakfast was good, nice view.

GermanyNo kitchen, no fridge, it's very hard to make/get food. The window in the room didn't close at all, so everyone could just enter the room, since the room was in the basement.
The room was big enough. Big common area. The breakfast was very good for a hostel (buffet with different options).

Italy-breakfast starts too late (8.30) compared to the Pousadas in Santa Maria and Pico where it starts at 7.30 -the first day I got to the dining room at 8.50 for breakfast and most fruit was gone and there were no eggs left... I asked staff if there were any more eggs (being still quite early in the morning!) and they said no -bathroom inside the rooms have no windows, so they often stink of mold/sewage. I had to keep my bathroom door closed while in the room because it stank -when you have a shower, the whole bathroom floods because the curtains apparently are not good enough -no kitchen (but staff was nice and gave me bowls and cutlery to make a salad when I asked them) -corridors also smell badly (mold?) -when you open the balcony window at night, lots of moths (once I had something like 10 of them flying around the room) come inside the room attracted by the light... so I suggest to open to the window at night only with the light turned off
-breakfast is nice -reception staff is very friendly -I had the female dorm room all to myself for 2 nights -filtered water dispenser -great location: supermarket + restaurants are a short walk away, and so is Faja grande, the beautiful natural swimming pools -another great trail (Serra do Topo - Faja dos Cubres) is quite near the area so I was able to get to the starting point with a little bit of walking (1 hour) + some hitchhiking, which is good considering that the island is HUGE and the distances are much bigger than I expected!

GermanyThere was no kitchen or fridge to use which is often common in youth hostels. The view was amazing but there was always a walk to do to get to the bus or to the swimming. With kids And without a car it is a bit exhausting.
It has a wonderful view to the island Pico-We had the room with terrace which made it quite comfortabel. The rooms got cleaned every day and it was very clean everywhere. The breakfast was like you can expect in a youth hostel- we had to remind the stuff quite often to fill the milk, bread or other things. But In the end there was enough food. The coffee should called coffee. I changed to black tea which was regional and tasty. Just a few metres from the youth hostel there was a supermarket which was good. Unfortunately there was no kitchen or fridge to use. The natural swimming pool at the camp site (around 15minutes walk) was great and the restaurant has delicious food.
