“This is a fabulous Chambre d’hôte right alongside the River Thouet and 50m from the Velo Francette long distance cycle route between La Rochelle and Caen. Arriving on laden touring bicycles with a snapped rear wheel spoke on one of the bikes our lovely lady host was soon on the phone to a bike shop and arranged for a repair to be done. She then drove me the 5km to the bike shop and waited while the spoke was replaced and the wheel trued. In the evening we watched European Championship football on the big TV in the living room with our lovely lady host's husband. Breakfast was a great spread and we drank our coffee overlooking the River. We faffed about getting the repaired wheel back in the bike and our lovely lady host made us more coffee while we were about it. Stay at the Moulin de L'Abbesse when visiting Thouars - you'll meet a lovely lady host.”
“A charming and very comfortable eclectic Guest House with many wonderful pieces of art and antique furniture. Situated in the medieval part of Parthenay it is close to the centre including restaurants and shops. Our hosts were most welcoming and gave us advice on restaurants and directions. Our bicycles were stored securely under cover. The property is situated near to the Velo Francette long-distance cycle route between Caen and La Rochelle and is an ideal stop on the route. Breakfast was delicious with fresh pastries and excellent coffee.”
“Just outside the town of Parthenay, this Auberge is in a quiet location. The owners were friendly and the room was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was also clean. The little kitchenette (part of the bedroom/living room) was reasonably well-equipped.
The owners were happy for me to store my bicycle in one of their storage sheds.
Good value for money.”
“Marie-Claire was very welcoming and friendly, even though she was unwell and it was pouring with rain when I arrived.
The bedroom was very comfortable and clean and the bathroom was well-equipped (great shower) and also very clean.
I was able to store my bicycle in the locked courtyard.
Breakfast was good and there was plenty to eat.
Thouars is a lovely, old city, with some wonderful buildings and great views.”
“Breakfast was excellent. Swimming pool was great. The house was very very nicely decorated with lots of interesting antiques. Children would really like this place due to the number of wooden puzzles, soft toys and other games that have been beautifully displayed around the house.”
