Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaIt could do with some maintainence - new signage, new menus (these are dog eared and dirty) and a face lift for the reception area because it presents as quite run down and tatty - but this could be easily fixed quite inexpensively and greatly improve the atmosphere.
Very kind and helpful staff, lovely balconies with views across Kigali, good breakfast and comfy bed -quiet too. I enjoyed my stay. Kind staff waited up for me to check out at 12.30am and made me coffee to take in my thermos, and ensured I got in my cab to the bus station.

United StatesAlthough central, the hotel is on a dirt road that is poorly lit at night (but safe nonetheless). On foot, it is a 15-20 minute climb up to the center of Kigali. The room and bathroom were functional, but not particularly modern.
The hotel has a wonderful terrace that looks out over a valley: I typically worked there, and ate breakfast and (often) supper there too. The staff were very welcoming, and most accommodating (e.g. on the last day I checked out, and left my bags at the hotel; they offered to let me shower when I came to pick up the bags). The location suited my purposes. The chef makes very nice salads. Breakfast - I chose coffee, omelet, toast, and fruit - set me up for the working day.

United StatesI had a very comfortable 2-night stay at Step Town. The hotel is not far from Kigali city center, & the area where the hotel is located is quiet, safe, & has nice views over Kigali. The staff was warm and very welcoming. The room I stayed in was clean & comfortable, and the place had a relaxing vibe. This was perfect as I was very tired & sore coming from my strenuous gorilla trek in Uganda just the day before, then crossed the border from Uganda to Rwanda the next day. This hotel was exactly what I needed for my much-needed rest. The onsite restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, & dinner. The breakfast that was included with my room was plenty & delicious, with eggs, toast, fresh fruits, fresh coffee, & juice. They have a good menu selection so I ended up having lunch & dinner here on my first day. The food & service were excellent. Wifi on the property, including the room, was also excellent. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Kigali for a couple of nights or more.

United StatesHotel is about a 15-20 minute walk to most things- a bit isolated. However, the friendly staff and good kitchen is noteworthy. Also, motorcycle taxis are inexpensive by US comparison.
Very nice staff. Good cook/chef on site. Meals tasty and reasonable by US standards. Staff helpful in visiting Genocide Museum and other spots of interest.

UruguayThe location was worse than expected, not knowing the city well. walking is a big problem because of the streets. You must walk at least 1 km to go anywhere. There are not many motorcycles around. I recommend requesting at reception.
The staff is very attentive and friendly. The room was very comfortable for the price. The view is very nice and the breakfast is very good.

LesothoAll my meals were in time and as in the menu except for my very last one where I was told some ingredients were not available when the meals were being delivered. So I suggest that guests should be told when they order that what they want is not available.
The breakfast was deliciously fresh especially the fruits which is my favorite breakfast. The manager and his staff friendly and helpful. The location was a bit out of town than I expected, but its tranquillity compensates for that.

IndiaBoth home service and service in the restaurant were very slow. The approach road to the hotel was very bad, especially for the bus in which we arrived.
The quality of the food was good. The view from the various levels and vantage points was great. The staff were very helpful - advising and arranging for transport in Kigali, printing out documents etc.
