Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FinlandEspecially all the sanitary spaces were really dirty. Ex. I had to put the towel on floor at shower before I was brave enough to go there, because the floor was so dirty and scary.
Only positive thing was that the ”hotel” located very close at the Umeå harbour.

FinlandThe lack of (or very poor) ventilation in the bathroom combined with a strange space-saving solution that probably leaks water into the wall and/or hard shower curtain made the bathroom stink something mouldish and we could only use it for short periods of time. I don't know if that's the reason, but one member of our family suffered from nausea in the morning and got better as soon as we left. Considering that these were family rooms (212 I think), we strongly recommend a renovation of the bathroom.
Overall, the hotel was tidy and the surroundings were pretty.

FinlandThe location is not great for carless people, I guess. If you're staying more than one night, visiting Umeå from here would be annoying
Nice room, great view onto Umeälven (not all rooms will have that of course), saw a cat from a window. Breakfast modest but meets expectations

GermanyWe booked a family room for five people. When we arrived, nobody was found at the reception. Just different envelopes for different rooms without any names. Via telephone we got in contact with the partner hotel but even they didn’t know which was our room. We had to check them all ourselves and finally got offered three rooms connected by an aisle which could be opened with any key. Not useful with small children. Additionally the rooms were dirty and not in good shape. We left for another hotel and got offered a refund, but later on the hotel didn’t reply our emails any more. Couldn’t be any worse.

LatviaIn the morning we got message from hotel than instead of double room two single rooms will be provided. When we requested partial refund, then we get promised double room. When we arrived, first we were shocked by location - need to drive through industrial terminal to reach hotel surrounded by port, industrial zone and cemetery. In hotel was strong food smell. Room was just over entry - very small and ugly - nothing similar to pictures. The only good was a girl at reception than helped to arrange hotel in Umea center without additional costs.
Possibility to stay in other hotel

FinlandI wouldn't call this place necessarily a hotel, maybe a hostel as it has rooms that share bathrooms, but offer lounges, kitchenette etc. As this is older place, bathrooms are just that (old showers, plastic flooring and a hint of moldy smell). Also some WC/showers are like on cheap cruise ships. No aircon. It was very bright to sleep as curtains are not good (thin and see through) and other window in my room didn't even have blinds. Linen smelled ok though and I didn't see stains. Looking at the map, you'd think you can reach the sea, but no, all fenced out. There was no receptionist. They promised a baby bed but they forgot to tell me that guests have to get the bed from a closet themselves.
Quiet environment. A bit older building, former head office of some industrial company. Thus had lots of public relaxing places (play area for kids with play kitchen, games; lounges; play room for older kids/adults; TVs etc etc). Outside spaces also nice. The building also has kitchen and laudry room for guests. I think this would be great for larger group of friends, or people working in the area during the week/for a project (longer stay kind of hotel), or for moderate conference etc. Not for romantic holiday or visiting the city. Complimentary evening snack was very nice suprise! Breakfast was ok, porrige, mysli, breads, yoghurt, veggies, boiled eggs, cold cuts, cheese, coffee tea (juice machine was broken).

United StatesThere was no possibility of convincing a taxi to take us to the Wasa line ferry Umea Sweden to Vaasa Finland. It was 2.5 miles away from the hotel and we had a long hard walk with suit cases. The staff at the hotel was helpful and called 4 different taxi companies to no avail. They did not want to drive 15 miles to pick up customers for a 2.5 mile journey.
We loved the breakfast and the evening snack that was provided at no extra charge. The hotel is a little dated, 1950 or 1960 comes to mind when looking at the furnishings. Bathroom old fashioned even for Sweden. Very comfortable sleep in two rooms with joined bathroom.

SwedenI have no remarks in this regard. I was satisfied.
The location is in a historic district, amenable to walking among the buildings in the parklike setting. Located very close to the terminal of the ferry to Finland. The single room had a nice view. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The only drawback was the lack of staffing at the time, but thanks to good information ahead of arrival, there was no problem in accessing the hotel or reaching staff via telephone.
